Just having a conversation that there was always a kid at school Whos living room you weren’t allowed in. Ever. Nobody used it. It was for if the queen called or the second coming or something.

Did you know someone like that? Were you that kid? More importantly does anyone do this as an adult??

How bizarre!

I know a family where the kids were never allowed to have toys in their living room. They had to play in their bedrooms away from everyone. Just so the living room was kept pristine.

I think it's traditional in some areas / families

i am that person

Im not even house proud but front room only gets used for visitors. You only went in my grandmas front room for songs of praise on a sunday. Wonder if its a midlands northern thing.

My mum was very house proud and had a similar view. The lounge is for entertaining friends and family. She was not that strict though.

Just a case of not food or drink allowed in their by kids, without adults being around, shoes off, dirty clothes off.

Then we got wood flooring and attitudes changed a bit.

peter kayes holiday chairs or guest chairs cant quite remember what it was called but that was just my grandmas house and as we got older it was mine and my sisters job to collect various chairs from around the house

That's us but to be fair it's only because when we changed the flooring to Bamboo wood we didn't realise it scratched so easy! Kids don't seem bothered playing in their rooms.

I had a great aunt that had one. Once when we visited my sister and I (10 and 6) asked if we could go into the room and she said yes as long as we didn’t touch anything. So we just stood in the centre of the room. When she came in she said we could sit down. Haha

My Nan had a front room like that. Only allowed in at Christmas when all 27 people really couldn't fit in the back on one sofa and a chair

I had this as a child, we had a playroom, our rooms and the garden.

We weren't allowed on the main dining room or any of the other living rooms...

I had a friend who had a conservatory and they all chilled in their. The living room door was always closed, lights off, heating off etc.

I had another who didn’t want their garage so converted it into a second living room. So one never got used

Haha. Yes, my friend had a sitting room they would never use, only if they had guests.

They lived in the back room otherwise.. but when you parents were out we’d have boxing matches in their ‘best room’.

Hiding in the shadows

The 'front room'

Only used Sat & Sun evenings, and when visitors came round.

The big colour TV was in there.

Rest of the week, in the dining room with a teeny black & white TV!

Our next door neighbours when we were kids lived in the kitchen. The furniture in the living room was covered in plastic and they went in there once a year to look at the Christmas tree.

The mum used to shut the kids out in the garden with a packet of biscuits each.
