I got mats an umbrella and a big bouquet of flowers out of the BMW lot when I bought my BMW and when I got my Mini I asked for and got a Mini-dedicated childs car seat out of them worth over 200 quid. You don't ask you don't get.

"Im to shy to ask.."

That's why you take your dad or a pushy pal with you to back you up.

Salesmen run when they see me and my pals coming!

I always ask for my forces discount, if places say they don't do it then I just tell them to put me through as a student.

When I bought my car I found a cheaper one online and showed it to the dealership, they matched the price and gave me a bit extra off too.

I hate paying more than I have to, it's not that I'm confident enough to haggle, it's that I'm too tight not too lol

reminds me of when our daughter bought her first car, before she had passed her test. K had a 2 seater sports car and I had a company car so she couldn't practice in either of them. I asked the question of how much she could afford on the finance and insurance and established she could get a car worth about £5k. Went looking at the usual 2nd hand dealers but happened to pass the Renault dealership who were doing a deal, new Clio for £149/month which was well within her limit. We looked at one on the forecourt, went in saw a young salesman and she said "I want one of those" he said do you want a test drive? she said no just a blue one please. Job done in under 15 minutes including the paperwork - the lad couldn't believe how easy it was to earn his commission lol

I haggle over most purchases and it's suprising what they refuse to give you until you say, 'OK then, we won't bother' ...

Nothing to lose by trying and everything to gain

Don't forget to do it with your phone or insurance whenever its due to renew your contract. Got a tenner a month off my phone bill and over a hundred quid off my car insurance for the year, even more as I paid for it all in one go.

Sky are good for a haggle. Tell them you're cancelling and it's almost gauranteed that you'll get half price for the next 6 months.

When I was an engineer and an out of warranty Sky box failed, repairs were chargable. However if the punter said that they'd cancel, nine times out of ten Sky would come up with a deal which was usually a recon box free of charge. As engineers for the company we knew about this option but were told not to tell customers about it and to refer them to customer services.

I always told them about the deal .. no skin off my nose was it ?

I am no good at it myself. Usually, I offer to the vendor what I am prepared to pay for the item and see if he/she would accept it.

If it is not accepted, then I would walk away.

Good luck with car buying!

I say! You're a fluffy chap! Are you now stomping your foot?

Better to overcome your impulses or else car people will molest your pocket book. *dodges a shoe*
