Not looking to lose weight as such, but I want to be and feel healthier and I want to be fitter than I am now. Would like to be toned for the summer and if I lose a little excess achieving that then I won't complain. When I exercise I tend to build muscle which actually means I put weight on, lol. I'd be happy at 11st 4lbs which is the ideal weight for my build and height. Have no idea what I weigh at present as I've not set foot on the scales in a LONG while. All I know is my size 14 clothes fit nicely, with a little room to move in, and my GF likes the body I have so I'd be just as happy staying as I am.

Not to worried though as am reasonably happy, just need to get back to the gym and sort the fitness again! Happy to be fat as long as I am fit!

Similar probs this way for my OH who's type II, but I've always believed natural (simple) sugars to be easier on the system than refined sugars - even though you've still got to watch your intake like a hawk.

Eat 6 to 8 small meals a day. Very little carbs, no carbs after 4pm. Any protein source (steamed) plus veg and fruit. No bananas, too high in cals. 1.5 liters of water a day. Should begin to results within 3 weeks. If train with weights and introduce cardio 3 or 4 times at 20 min cycles. The weight WILL fall off you. Depends, how much you want it??????

Last year I went a bit nuts with the fitness and went from a 10 to a 6, just got addicted to the gym, working out. My body fat % is at 17 which I'm really chuffed with.

However I've dropped a bra size I'm back in the gym trying to build muscle in my chest area and to further tone my arms.

I'm looking to put a little weight on but it'll all be muscle I hope.

Ok. Here is a diet plan for you fellas out there who want to gain lean muscle mass. You don't want to look like the male "models" on men's fitness and the like. Ask this question, why do the "models" ALWAYS wear long shorts or trousers. Simple they have legs that belong to chickens!!!

Breakfast;

Eat as much as you can at your first meal: the most important of the day. Too many people under eat at this time. Your body has been rebuilding and starving all night long and it needs nutrients. If you just catch something quick on the run instead of eating a full meal, it can impact your workout and whatever else you do during the day. Eating small breakfasts is one of the main reasons hard gainers have trouble adding muscle.

In the morning, you need both protein and a large quantity of complex carbohydrates. Morning is the best time to consume carbohydrates, because you need them for slow-burning energy to help you get through the day. Mix a cup of porridge and raisins with 10 cooked egg whites. Scramble the egg whites really lightly, pour the dry porridge in, add a little water and scramble it up. It’s basically a porridge omelette, and it’s loaded with great carbohydrates and high quality protein.

Midmorning;

Your midmorning meal can consist of chicken breast or a chicken sandwich on whole grain bread. You can also have a protein drink-that’s an easy way to bump up your calories by about 200 daily. For this meal, look for a drink high in protein (at least 30 to 40 grams of whey protein)

Lunch;

This should be your second large meal of the day. You want a good protein source such as fish or chicken, and complex carbohydrates to continue to fuel your body. For packed lunches, use chicken or turkey breast, or cans of tuna or salmon. Salmon is a little fattier, but that is from beneficial omega-3 fatty acids. It’s also a super protein source that will help you put on size. Don’t worry about fat content if you’re trying to put on size.

Mid Afternoon;

You should consume protein and carbohydrates at this time. This doesn’t need to be huge in terms of calories, but you want to consume about 30g of protein to make sure your body has a continual influx of amino acids. A protein drink, a can of tuna or salmon will suffice.

Post Workout;

Besides breakfast, the post workout meal is the most important meal of the day. After you lift, you want to consume simple carbohydrates as soon as possible. The sugars go to work to replace the glycogen you’ve depleted while training. This is the only time of the day when it’s crucial to consume sugar.

Take a couple of bananas to the gym and eat them on the way home.

Dinner;

By the time you get home you want a huge protein dense meal, make this meal as large as possible, and eat it about 30 to 45 minutes after your workout.

This late in the day, you need to reduce your carbohydrate consumption. If you consume too many starchy carbohydrates at night, they get stored as body fat instead of burned as a fuel source. Typically, cut the rice and potatoes, and load up on vegetables after 7pm. The fibre, vitamins and minerals of the vegetables help with digestion. It’s hard on the digestive system to process a large quantity of protein.

Late Night;

Finally, you want to get in another 30 or so grams of protein before you go to bed to supply your body with amino acids while it is recovering as you sleep. Have another protein drink or a piece of fish with mixed vegetables.

Enjoy, any questions. Just ask!

Weight loss diet program for men and women.

This diet is designed around four meals throughout the day.

The reason you are not losing weight is that you are not eating enough!

Breakfast;7am-9am (pick one of the following)

• One whole grapefruit

• Small portion of fish

• Two poached eggs

• One round of whole meal bread

Lunch;1pm-2pm (pick one of the following)

• Breast of turkey and salad

• Fish and salad

• Breast of chicken with lettuce and tomatoes

• One small yoghurt

Dinner ;5pm-7pm (pick one of the following)

• Piece of fish and vegetables

• Breast of turkey and vegetables

• Breast of chicken and vegetables

• Fruit-apples/pears/oranges (NO BANANAS)

Supper;8pm-9pm (pick one of the following)

• Half a tub of cottage cheese

• Sardines on toast

• One piece of fruit

• One yoghurt

It is important not to eat between meals!

Boiling and steaming of food when ever possible. No ready meals, as they are CRAMMED with salt and this will cause water retention. This diet is NOT EASY however it is designed to give GUARANTEED RESULTS! All vegetables are to be green vegetables.

The trouble with most diets, however, is the boredom factor. I d rather like to eat what I like, in sensible quantities, do the "right thing" 80 % of the time and have fun in the remaiing 20%. In addition, I add at least one protein shake a day (a good quality one like phd) and hey presto ... it does work (including lots of resistance training and some cardio)

Diets are a lot easy than you think? How bad do you want it?????????????

Also, it's not what your weight on the scale is! It's what the mirror says. Be honest too.

Again, if you are stuck ask. I come from a professional bodybuilding background. Dieting can be easy, YOU are the master of your body!! Don't give up either!! Set yourself short term goals!

I am sorry but I cannot agree with you entirely. Also for the majority of people a very strict diet is impracticable and boring. Hence I find a compromise of what you are suggesting with a hint of realism works better long term without feeling deprived. Well it works for me anyway

I don't expect you to agree with me. Unless you have been there. Again, depends how far, how hard you can push it. The body says no, but the mind say yes!

If your not strict enough, you WILL NOT see the results, hence you will stop dieting, gain the weight you lost, if not more. Your not even back to square one. It's minus one. I do this for a living, this how I earn my money.

My list of clients is long, the girls/fellas all get the results they desire. However, I control you in the gym, outside the gym. YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN, I HAVE NO CONTROL OVER YOU. You don't deprive yourself, you get what you deserve, what you want. Otherwise, why diet then???

My father was a world champion.

I can, once again agree with you on some things eg that essentially "no pain no gain" principle and that you have to get yourself outside your comfort zone. I am really just not sure about taking the whole fitnes and diet regime to extreme unless you want to be a professional bodybuilder for example.

I do follow a regime most of the time, eat sensible most of the time, take my supplements and shakes and I love the combination of cardio, resistance and flexibility training - I work on occasions with a bodybuilder champion and find it very informative and useful. Where we differ is that like most people I am not fanatical about it as there are many many other things in life who have equal or greater importance.

I guess that was what I was trying to say - most people want to be relatively fit and look toned but not be obsessive about the whole thing. I also agree with you that very rapid weight loss is not ususally a guarantee for long term success.

I agree. getting faddy is counterproductive. The only way to lose weight is to eat less calories than you use. Doesn't matter what the calories are from. A healthy adult burns about 2000 cals a day, so someone could eat 1500 cals of KFC and theoretically lose weight. Unfortunately a) 1500 cals of KFC isn't much and b) they'd die of malnutrition. It also doesn't matter when you eat.

Eat sensibly, eat good food, and eat little and often, but don't get humg up about food else you'll break your diet in no time.

Thanks for your 'weight gain' and weight loss' diet advice. I take too much sugar and often skip meals, which I know is bad for me. I actually find it difficult to eat a lot and tend to 'pick' or 'graze'.

I'm wanting to tone up more than lose or gain weight. Any dietary advice for a vegetarian who doesn't eat fish? Would be greatly appreciated x
