So reading forum chats and not having particularly much interest on the message side of fab i thought id ask the question is the forum the preferred route to chat and meet people and why whats wrong with a chat message back ?

The forums are really the only reason I visit this establishment.

I don’t really look at the local up dates or search for people in my area.

Then again I don’t really care for meeting that many people

We've met a couple of people directly from chats on the forum but only a couple.

It's a very successful method of making contact for some but not all.

As I said on an earlier thread, the only meets I have had, have been through the forums. I gave up sending preemptive faf messages about 8 years ago

It’s only through posting bobbins on the forums that I ever get messaged. When I first joined Fab and before I joined the forum I got absolutely zero respsonses. Now I might get a 2% or 3% hit rate if I message and every now and then someone might actually message me first, so it’s worth being a twat in here and making some noise!!

your imagination

Starting a conversation off the back of a Forum thread is simply easier! You already have a topic to discuss and have a giggle about while you get to know each other... Plus if you've already seen someone posting around the forums you'll already have an idea of their personality.

It's a natural flow, and much more interesting than some stranger you've never seen or heard of before cold-mailing you to say 'Hi. Nice tits.'

I dunno, might depend on your area, these things in general often do. I’ve not met anyone from the forums although I chat with quite a few. Meets are usually me going on the prowl when I’m ready. You have to find what works best for you.

I think chat with a webcam, pointing at your face. Is much more successful, I only use the forums to pass the time, and keep my eyes open for events I want to attend

There and to the left a bit

The forums are a tiny percentage of the site users so it narrows down the number of potential people to meet BUT that works for me.

As PlayD8 said it's quite simple to spark a conversation through the forums plus you have the added benefit of being able to see the person beyond the profile text through their forum interaction.

The problem with that is it puts you off chatting to 3/4 of the people who use he forums.

There's already a subject base for convo (the thread itself)

You get to see peoples posts/reactions/interactions with others and get a sense of the person behind their posts/comments. You can already feel like you know someone without awkward messages when you first start talking.

You also get to see their views on many different subjects, again, you feel like you have a sense of who the person is.

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

"The forums are a tiny percentage of the site users so it narrows down the number of potential people to meet"

It's a slightly less tiny percentage when you include the non participating users - there are many for whom we exist as a sort of soap opera, and they will occasionally make contact.

When i'm on here i'm usually on the forums. They're a better way to get an idea of what someone is about than sending messages & it's easier to have a conversation.

Or

I'm taking the piss out of people's updates to see who has a bit of craic about them.

The forums are usually more entertaining

The vast majority of the site doesn't use the forum so no, it's easier to find someone if you include the wider site population.

I don't use the forum looking for meets. It can happen, I'm open to it, but I don't think counting on it will help.

I browse to find interesting topics that stimulate my mind. On occasions I post in the regular threads, but not expecting a meet from them. The forums help me to understand fabbers personalities and if we could be a match. If I happen to get on well with someone and we connect then I would like to meet them.

Having said that most of the forum users or forumites have well established friendships. They are organising meets or speaking to their regulars. As an outsider, kinda newbie coming back to fab that makes it difficult to find a potential match for my first meet. So for now I just enjoy the entertainment value of the forums.

Another thing:

A large number of forum users tend to join groups/crowds nothing particularly wrong with that, but they become blind followers... listening to rumours or lies created by people with the aim of putting others down or having the power of control.

I am looking for someone who enjoys friendships, but at the same time makes their own decisions and engages directly rather then listening to whispers. That is not easy to find, but I am willing to be patient.

The search continues.
