It’s cold, wet and miserable and there’s always people on internet fuck site forums complaining about Christmas*

(*disclaimer : I know many people genuinely hate Christmas for various very legitimate reasons and appreciate this can be a very difficult time of year for some)

So what? Many enjoy Christmas celebrations. They aren't forcing those that hate it to join in. Feel free to f*** off for a couple of days while we enjoy exchanging gifts and spending quality time away from work, with our friends and families.

Meh...

For me it's the same as any other time of year.

I don't have children so I don't have financial pressure.

I'll be spending Xmas Day working in the Morning then Xmas lunch cooked for me by my sister and her family - so that's another pressure off.

Then I'll go home for the evening by myself.

It's all good.

I like my own company- especially after being with other people all day.

Christmas doesn't mean too much to me, it was only mum who made an effort for her grandkids, she died a couple of years ago and the kids live in Spain. Will have a good new year though.

I am absolutely positive that people have genuine reasons for not liking this time of year but I think it’s selfish to spoil it for others or to make them feel uncomfortable for liking it.

If you don’t like it, fine, avoid things. I don’t like New Year’s Eve. I find it to be a very difficult time so I just avoid everything to do with it.

You do your thing and I’ll do mine that way we will all be happy

The same way that New Years Eve is rammed down mine ... avoid it.

It is natural, normal and wonderful to enjoy Christmas. It’s not the people that like it that have to stop doing what they’re doing, it’s for the people that don’t enjoy it to find another way of managing the festive season. It is perfectly reasonable to expect people to enjoy Christmas.

Is anyone ruining for everyone or you could flip this and say it's rammed down the throats of the people that don't celebrate whether they like it or not?

Personal I don't mind Christmas but this year I've cancelled it for personal reasons ... but have no issues with anyone celebrating anything they want tbh

"C’mon give me all the reasons you hate this time of year!???"

I won't go into what my personal reasons are for not liking Christmas, but trust me it isn't just me being a bah humbug.

In the lead up being social seriously ramps up my anxiety levels. I don't enjoy going out in big groups. I'm generally the only one on my own and I find it difficult to join in conversations (and that's due to hearing problems as well as being socially awkward).

I never suggested that, but are you seriously expecting everyone else not to enjoy it?

People have many reasons not to enjoy Christmas and I am not dismissing those feelings and thoughts but what I am saying is that it’s unrealistic and selfish to expect others not to celebrate and enjoy it.

For anyone who doesn’t enjoy it, find a way of dealing with the season that suits you and your well-being.

For those of us that love it ... let’s get on and enjoy it.

west here ford shire

Thanks for the variety of comments, I have understood your reasons and some of you have touched me emotionally, I don’t know if I’m going to even be here next Christmas, I hope so, but can’t guarantee it.

So for me it’s an important time with my family.

But not everyone enjoys this time of year, I understand that.

I’m sad some you feel you can’t engage in celebration a family time to be happy and share gifts, I’m no Christian, but bought up to believe in the Christian faith, the ritual is a pagan festival, celebrating the end of one year and beginning of another coinciding with the birth of Jesus.

Whatever reason people celebrate this time of year it has a certain goodwill feeling about it, the commercialisation of this time of year is way overboard totally agree!!

But all of you not celebrating my heart goes to you all, wether from a bereavement or loneliness I would like to think on the day you can just have a cup of tea and take a moment to be happy please. Xx

Thanks for the contributions

Ahh in an ideal world yes, however the Christmas threads are constantly hijacked by those that don’t enjoy Christmas and I always wonder why they bother to comment. If you don’t like the thread then avoid it.

I have spent two years avoiding commenting on these types of threads but actually it’s a bit annoying that people can’t extend the same courtesy to those that enjoy it.

For those of us that love it ... let’s get on and enjoy it.

No one on any Bah Humbug thread/I don't like Christmas thread has said that others can't enjoy it.

It just keeps getting invaded by people telling us to stop being selfish and enjoy ourselves.

Oh no, don’t get me wrong ... I’m not telling you to enjoy yourself I’m saying you do what makes you comfortable and happy. It’s nothing to do with others.

Every Christmas thread is hijacked by people that don’t enjoy Christmas and want to drag the thread down. It’s exactly the same difference.

That's exactly what you are doing every time you call someone selfish for not wanting to celebrate.

No it’s not, that’s your interpretation of what I’m saying. You said it was rammed down your throat, I’m saying do what makes you happy as will I.

I don’t know you or your situation. You do what feels right for you but as for here ... this is a public forum, if I wish to comment on my thoughts and feelings then I will do so, as will you. It’s fine not to agree. I’m not trying to change anybody’s opinion. I am giving my point of view. We can agree to disagree. "

By jumping into the thread and calling people selfish for not liking Christmas, yes you are ramming it down people's throats. If you truly acknowledged that not everyone likes Christmas (for a variety of reasons) it wouldn't actually be bringing you down. Because being a supportive friend would mean you get more out of being supportive rather than calling people selfish.

And it's funny that it's a public forum and people can only post where they want when you agree with it. You post on "bah humbug" threads, they can post on the "Christmas is fantastic" threads.

"I am absolutely positive that people have genuine reasons for not liking this time of year but I think it’s selfish to spoil it for others or to make them feel uncomfortable for liking it.

If you don’t like it, fine, avoid things. I don’t like New Year’s Eve. I find it to be a very difficult time so I just avoid everything to do with it.

You do your thing and I’ll do mine that way we will all be happy

Tell me how to avoid it when it's rammed down my throat 24/7?

The same way that New Years Eve is rammed down mine ... avoid it.

It is natural, normal and wonderful to enjoy Christmas. It’s not the people that like it that have to stop doing what they’re doing, it’s for the people that don’t enjoy it to find another way of managing the festive season. It is perfectly reasonable to expect people to enjoy Christmas.

New Years Eve is one day. It's easy to avoid it.

Am I meant to stay at home for three months?

I never suggested that, but are you seriously expecting everyone else not to enjoy it?

People have many reasons not to enjoy Christmas and I am not dismissing those feelings and thoughts but what I am saying is that it’s unrealistic and selfish to expect others not to celebrate and enjoy it.

For anyone who doesn’t enjoy it, find a way of dealing with the season that suits you and your well-being.

I do acknowledge that Christmas isn’t for everyone. You don’t acknowledge that people still have a right to enjoy it. That part is the selfish part in my opinion.
