I've got water in my ear from swimming. This rarely happens as I'm one of those annoying women who swims trying not to get their hair wet.

Anyway my ears annoying me, how can I get the water out?

Lie down with a towel on your pillow. The water will drain out if you lie on the water filled ear. At this time of night, you should hopefully just fall asleep and forget about it.

I've just tried that and it hasn't worked. I can't seem to get a vacuum to form. The theory makes sense.

Thank you for your suggestion

Tip the effected ear by lying sideways down. Yawn and see if that does the trick to release the pressure... If this doesn't work hold your nose close your mouth and blow. This is a divers technique. It can be uncomfortable feeling that should pass before you awake on the morning.. Hope this helps x

Never put a cotton bud in your ear.

My advice hold your nose and try popping your ears, it will sort itself out.

Pinch your nose, close your mouth and -gently - breath out.

This might be enough to push a bit of pressure to your ear canal.

For added pressure assistance, be on all fours and have a well endowed volunteer pümp you from behind. At the very least it’ll take your mind off the ear.

Stick your head in the fridge and freeze the water.

Then turn on the hob (in a non sexual way) and lean over it with your head tilted sideways.

The heat will melt the ice and it'll slide out on its own.

While you're there could you make me a manhatten?

Fill your ear with salt then put a bandage around your head covering both ears to hold the salt in.

Keep this on for two days , then go and see your GP and tell him about the water in your ear

I had this exact same problem back in the Summer.

Haven't read the whole thread so this might be duplicated.

Hold your nose tightly and attempt to blow through it. This should pop your ears if you are doing it correctly.

Do this throughout the day every time you think about it.

The water is trapped and you need to pop your ears in order to release it.

Although if you're going to try this do be careful, sounds like a way to pop your eardrum if you're too gung ho. Ditto with poking things in your ear.

I'd suggest enjoying the experience as a novelty, it'll wear off soon enough of its own accord.

What stuff? Sometimes when washing my hair water gets in my ears and it’s sooo itchy/annoying so would be interested in finding out if the stuff you’ve got works?

Olive oil for 5 minutes in each ear...you have to do it daily.

I go swimming every Thursday.

Don't swim with your head above the water because it will hurt your neck.

I bet. I had a swimming head band that came with plugs or putty type stuff.

I'm a leisure swimmer, I like to keep flexible and use my muscles but I'm not a head down and power up and down the lengths woman.

I don't often use earplugs.

If I do I use the plastic or rubber ones (not foam sleeping plugs)

I go death alot from swimming. It's because I don't put olive oil in my ears every day. I used to swim most weekdays as a teenager so I was deaf alot.

The way to stop it is to put the olive oil in your ears regularly (not just 1 time)

I probably only do about 30 or 40 lengths, depending on who else is in the pool. I was interested and faintly amused last night to notice that two men who had previously been floating about and larking around suddenly began to swim seriously once I got in and started doing lengths. If I didn't know better I would say one of them was definitely trying to prove he could swim faster than me. He could and I didn't care

I bet it's putty.

Or water.

It'll be one of them.
