I've been sat at home all day waiting for a workman and he still isn't here

What a waste of a day!

I've got cabin fever and let's face it - he's not coming now is he - or he's going to come and say he hasn't got time to do anything today

A contractor who turned up when they said they would, did the job well and cleared up before they went home would make a bomb just in word of mouth.

I really don't understand why most of them (in my experience) are so shit.

Yep, most workmen are absolutely shit whether they are self employed or working for a company.

Have had the same problem with npower fitters, British gas fitters, self employed brickies and plasterers, window fitters and the list goes on.

Nearly all with either no excuse or the good old 'I couldn't get a signal on my mobile'.

Bunch of tossers that don't deserve custom, and we make sure we tell everybody locally how shit they are, and know of several people who cancelled work after hearing about the shit. .

Good luck with getting the work done.

Some contractors don't like turning jobs down so they say they will turn up but when a bigger job comes along they either don't turn up on time or keep putting you off until you get someone else, And most of the best contractors only bother with big jobs running into £1000s

If they keep messing you about and if they eventually do the job just pay by cheque and watch the smile get wiped of their face when they know they will have to pay tax on it

My shower needs re tiling and the seal needs replacing.

There's a leak every time I shower causing a damp smell

The longer I leave it they're going to knock down the whole bloody wall because of damage!

I think that's their plan - they want more money so they're delaying it!

I wish I could do this sort of thing myself - so I didn't have to rely on anyone!

I've got loads needs doing, keep putting it off because I know the script.

From getting quotes to getting them to actually turn up and do the work is like pulling teeth.

It is so frustrating.

I'm even considering getting a bloke to project manage mine when I finally get it done as I know from experience they fuck you around more if you're a woman.

I feel your pain. This is the work I do. I must be one of those few that do turn up when I supposed to, or at least inform the customer of my delay. Many jobs run over due mainly to extra work being added on once you start.

If I could help you out I would but I guess you’re a good way from me plus I’m actually booked up well into the new year!

Hope you get it sorted and have a decent job done too.

I’m a self employed chap.

My business is doing well not only through advertising but through word of mouth.

Certain services believe that they can get away with it as ‘you’ need ‘them’.

It does not work like that in the long run, I’ve seen it to often. Bad social media is the way to out them.

I do feel for you and hope you get sorted what you need to.

I would make him wait for payment, give it a month or so. If he complains, remind him putting you off without letting you know.

On a serious note. If you got him from an alleged decent trader site, I would give him atrocious feedback.

Was he available to start (delayed obviously) very soon after contact ?

Generally good workmen have work booked in weeks in advance. If not I'd be questioning why they're available

I know it doesn't help this situation I feel for you, it's happened to most I guess
