Why do contactless card machines display the contactless symbol and ask you to tap your card when your total is more than allowed for contactless? So then you tap the screen as instructed and the checkout clerk smugly tells you that you need to insert the card. Why would it tell you to tap your card when its not allowed for that value? GRRRRRRRR!

That bugs me too. It's like buses not having anything to tell you how much the fare is then the driving huffing and puffing if you need to ask.

I think it is because there isn't a single limit for contactless. So until you present your card it doesn't know if it is allowed or not.

Put everything on credit cards. Never need to pay it back.

No I’m sure the limit per transaction for contactless is £30.

I get your point. It’s irrationally irritating
