If most religions are unfortunately likely to be false, if there's one amongst the thousands that have existed that's correct, how much respect etc should they all be afforded if at best most of it's horse shit?

Ultimately, I respect anything that fundamentally promotes love. Belief, on the other hand, is a completely different discussion

Matt Dillahunty or Christopher Hitchens have the last word on the subject for me. I've never believed much and they NAIL IT. -

However each to their own... trouble is... alot wont rest unless you think like they do or they want to change the rules/thinking until you have to follow certain traits.

My this is MY subject but I will try not let this thread get to me.. time for sleepys.

Its a funny thing but two people I know who were atheists suddenly decided to hedge their bets when they discovered they were terminally ill.

I think humanity needs religion and a percentage of the population will always respect it.

It's certainly good to promote love and compassion for others. But if most of these religions at their core highlight that the rest of them are bunkum and yet the world gives them such great importance. Generally they are exempt from taxes here in the west, whilst populations go without good enough health care spending etc. Should they generally be regarded as not so out of the ordinary, not so beyond reproach when it comes to how their people treat others etc. At best one of them may have some fact, the rest are hogwash and it's perhaps most likely they all are, if most of them are.

if 1 religion is likely to be correct then respect them all until you find the right one.

Simple logic, if there is 1 right religion, and lets say that religion has a hell and heaven then I rather hedge my bets on respecting all forms of beliefs but respect doesnt mean agreeing.

It costs nothing to be polite, kind and have good manners. Society is fucked up now cos people have to ask if we need to respect religions or others, cos its all about the self now.

Respect all, form a cohesive symbiotic society that cares for the weak and we will have a society that is less about the rich and more about peace.

Jesus was born in a stable in Bethlehem his pop was a joiner / carpenter 3 wise men give him presents his mam was a virgin supposedly he got nailed to a cross but came back at Easter I think that’s what I was taught at school and it’s what I still believe today maybe religious studies should be dropped

I'm inclined to think that faith is a good thing but organised religion is a bad thing.

I was raised on Christian principles and think the Bible has a lot of merit as an ethical, philosophical and spiritual collection of writings. It is how people have twisted it's words, changed translations and tried to insist it should be taken as literal truth to fit their own powerhungry patriarchal agenda. At its core it speaks of Love and compassion.

I can't speak for other faiths as I know so much less but my guess is that all have been similarly corrupted.

I’ve known many many atheists who died not hedging their bets. A couple who did, most likely not atheists

Religion is a funny thing. When you think about it really then truth is spoken in all types of religions. However they also all tend to run on hatred and if you’re not a believer in that faith then you are damned to hell. For those who suddenly convert when you’re terminally ill, all I can say is good luck. Praying didn’t save my mother when she was dying from cancer. It certainly didn’t make me believe in the power of an almighty being. We all find hope in many different ways. Some even find that euphoria here in fabswingers. We also tend to find that there are a lot of people who love to make people feel bad here. So whether you want to think that religion is a good thing or bad thing then it is all down to your personal beliefs. The fact that most are made up to help promote a different way of life then good luck to you. It’s your life and you live it your way. Just don’t tell others how to live theirs. We will all find out in the end if we made the right decision. Xx

Wow. I never thought I'd see Matt Dillahunty mentioned on Fab. I'd better give Tracie Harris a shout out too. She is fine in every way.

My view is we should afford people the right to believe whatever they want if it stays in their head. As soon as they act on it (verbally or physically) in a way that affects others, those ideas are open to full scrutiny. In a lot of cases, ridicule of the ideas can.be justified.

It's a tricky one really. There are clearly some religions / faith systems that are clearly a bit bonkers. There are also a number of people who have had "experiences" that, for them, confirm the validity of their faith. There are scientific explanations for some but not others. I guess it lives on because in a lot of ways it's hard to prove a negative. It is almost impossible to be able to categorically prove that "god" doesn't exist. It's also quite hard to prove that he / she does exist. To say that science is infallible is also clearly a nonsense as it is evolving as our knowledge itself evolves. At the end of the day all of these systems are subscribed to by people and none of us is perfect or not even consistent in being ourselves so it's hardly surprising that you can take any faith or religion, ask all the followers / believers of that faith / religion to explain it and you will get different answers.

The burdon of proof is down to the claimer. It's not down to anyone to disprove as much as one doesn't have to disprove unicorns or elves or pixies or Zeus or Odin.

Until one can prove what one claims, it's just faith. And that is no difference to those in an asylum claiming they are Abe Lincoln etc.

God created our world.

Our world is a research project/farm

Our creator is a supreme being from a different place

Our creator isn't bigger than the universe.

Our creator is part of the univers e and just a more superiour form of life

Thank you for clarifying that you have an in depth knowledge of the Bible.

However im interested in the couple with the hidden profile who made the sweeping generalisations if they have a good knowledge base of Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, etc etc
