Remember when you used to be able to score a point in a debate with that line. Since nobody had google in their pocket and the debate would long be forgotten before anyone could dial up their internet connection and fact check anything.

People don't care about facts anymore anyway. Most people are also too lazy to look up the facts for themselves. Hence how the press manage to con and lie to half the public who lap up everything they say.

I think that you used to be able to get away with saying "its a well known fact". Then we had this pool of facts in people's pockets, so then people started stuffing that pool with disinformation. So now, instead of saying "its a well known fact", you just say "according to buzzfeed"...
