Is the Mars expedition fake ?

So apparently NASA has sent a ship to Mars , at speeds faster than a bullet , and it’s got there , landed , and now it’s taking selfies before drilling into the planet and sending us the info it gets .

Does anyone else think it’s a complete load of bollocks ? I mean seriously , it’s been travelling for over six months through millions of miles of unchartered terrain , yet there it is .

In my best Victor Meldrew voice “ I don’t believe it “ , and I really don’t .

You’re sending that message through a device, that can connect to all the information that has been collected by man in the palm of your hand. So is that bollocks as well, cause you don’t understand it ?

The first successful mission to mars was in 1965 if they could do it then I think it's perfectly feasible that they can do it now

That literally sounds like the impossible nonsense you only see in science fiction. As if they would be able to actually make such a device! I mean really, how on earth could written words and pictures possibly get from one side of the earth to the other, invisible to the naked eye, from one device to another in the blink of an eye?

You’d have to be pretty gullible to believe that sort of nonsense!

No, really. Science has a pretty good track record of being correct regardless of how convinced people are about it.

Gravity doesn’t magically stop working if you’re not convinced it’s a thing.

"Is this thread also link to the flat earth ones?"

Well, the earth is flat, obvs.

If it wasn’t how do you explain the fact that all four wheels on a car are touching the ground?

If the earth was curved that would be literally inoossible!

I didn’t say I didn’t know how they did it .

I simply asked if anyone else thought it was not for real . And I don’t understand how a solid object like the ship they’ve sent can move at speeds exceeding a bullet for over six months . The fuel required for such a feat would be overwhelming .

I do believe in the moon landing , you can see stuff left up there through a telescope .

I don’t believe the earth is flat .

I just can’t see how and why all this is going on with Mars . What’s the point ? How , why , and to what end ?

It's a scientific mission to understand more about our own planet. Mars formed at a similar time from the same material but turned out differently. We might also colonise Mars at some point so want to know more about it.

I'm sure there's more. The internet will explain things better I'm sure.

To be fair, that sounds a lot like you saying you don’t know how they did it...

Don’t forget there’s no atmosphere in space so it takes a lot less fuel to propel something. And materials are incredibly light now compared to the time of the moon landing.

What would you say to someone who said what you have said about Mars, but about the moon?

The point, presumably is the same as why Columbus sailed to the New World. Man’s inate desire to explore.

There’s no resistance in space. It reaches the velocity required using fuel. Then it literally keeps going as there is nothing to stop it.

For the purpose of the thread I looked up what we learned from the moon missions .

And the answer is apart from knowing a bit about rocks , their age in billions of years , and a few volcanic eruptions , the answer is fuck all .

So I’m guessing we will learn about the same from this Mars mission . Assuming it’s real if course

In terms of humans not setting foot on the moon since Apollo 17, Congress funding was dramatically reduced after the 'race' was run. Once it either becomes commercially viable to return, or a necessary stepping stone to Mars, we will return.

Exactly my point and the Russians actually bettered them by putting the first man in space. What would be the trump card. Oh landing on the moon.

Yes i believe there have been expeditions on the moon with technology far greater these days. But still doesn't answer the question why man has never stepped on the moon since the alleged event?

What has been found there rather prevents man from repeating the so called feat?

Saw the movie based on a true story I believe "

Very good acting on all parts

"Science and mathmatics dont care what you think

They do.. they need to convince us...

They do a bad job of that

No, really. Science has a pretty good track record of being correct regardless of how convinced people are about it.

Gravity doesn’t magically stop working if you’re not convinced it’s a thing. "

"The Americans fake pretty much everything. The moon landings totally farcical. Closest they got to stepping foot on the moon is Universal studios. All bullshit

Don’t agree at all! Where is that evidence?

The Americans were behind the Russians. Russia sent the first man into space. We are all entitled to an opinion. Just answer 1 question. Why has it never happened again since???

Cost.

Are you serious lol. Couldn't think of a better response? Considering the so called billions America spends on their space program and you say cost

I have to ask if you're the one who's serious. The amount of money the US Congress was pumping into NASA in the 60s to beat the Soviets to the moon dwarfs the current budget.

Umm.. because nowhere near the same amount of money is being spent since the objective was achieved. So.... again....cost."

Also, the Soviets were ahead initially while the Americans squabbled internally over who (Navy, Air force, Civilian etc.) was going to get the funding to develop the technology etc. I think NASA itself was only formed after Sputnik went up and the US started to take things seriously. The Soviets, however, cut corners and took massive risks ( even by space program standards) to grab headline achievements. Once the massive US funding kicked in to achieve JFKs target, there was no way the Soviets could compete.

It also helped that the US got most of the German rocket scientists, design schematics and hardware at the end of WW2.

It's all real. There are missions into space.

You can go look at the rockets at Kennedy space center.

It's not a big expensive pointless hoax.

The world is round, evolution is real, astrophysics is real.

The pyramids and ancient Egyptian/mayan civilization is probably older than people first believed. (I think)

No worries . It is, of course, your right to believe whatever you want, no matter the evidence/common sense to the contrary. You might like to know that over the years, pretty much all the conspiracy theories have been scientifically and robustly debunked, but I doubt that will sway your opinion

About the only question I still have is why most, if not all, of the Apollo astronauts who went to the moon didn't get cancer, given the lethal radiation they would have been exposed to being beyond the Van Allen belts. I must admit that I've not seen a convincing argument for that.

Well an unanswered question anyway, which certainly neither proves nor disproves the missions.

Maybe the NHS should start funding missions there . And on that note, I say goodnight.

flattards and moodtards often like to use the van allen belts as the go to that no space travel is possible..

despite it being van allen who actually did the work to get the astronauts into space by calculating the intensity and the amount of time the spacemen would travel through it... though flattards etc, will often cite "but duhhh van allen beltshhhh!!!"

I honestly am getting sick of conspiracies that actually make no sense...flat earth, moon hoaxing, chemtrails etc etc...

the costs to hide such amazing 'features', would be utterly pointless for a start..and thats just to shut up a few million people for a start.

and you really gotta ask yourself when a youtube 'scientist' dmarble...asks why the sky is blue, but space looks black..you know you're in trouble when he has several thousand idiots thinking this guy knows shit.

"I didn’t say I didn’t know how they did it .

They've sent a probe all around our solar system.... look it up. Theres a very famous picture that was taken showing earth as a very tiny insignificant blue dot in the vastness of space.

This isn't the 1st mission beyond our tiny atmosphere. You should look up some of the data out there

In terms of humans not setting foot on the moon since Apollo 17, Congress funding was dramatically reduced after the 'race' was run. Once it either becomes commercially viable to return, or a necessary stepping stone to Mars, we will return."

I think the international space station will fullfill that role now.

"Another question. Who actually built the pyramids? How many men and years would it have taken to build just 1 of them. Im sure more than the life expectancy of most men at that time period"

The hyroglyphs and stone tools they had are left around the desert.

The depictions show a sledge with a pharo statute ontop being pulled by a group of people holding a rope. Experts believe the sand was wet.

Nah pal. Ancient Egyptians were smarter than people today. Their technology and knowledge was lost to us but it's still being discovered today.

They had quirky ways of cutting stone and where they built the pyramids and why. Stuff people couldn't do even now with all the technology we have. They were doing it with manpower, horsepower, physics and mathematics.

It's still a mystery to us because the world has passed through many "dark ages" and lost this knowledge.

We ignorantly thought we knew everything but the Egyptians were very clued up on the stars/universe and architecture/engineering.

The Egyptians were around for a very very very long time and they had a very very very advanced society.

They couldn't build engines or space travel or helicopters (dispite drawing otherwise)

But I think they were experimenting with electricity and positive/negative energies well before tesla Edison and swan.

The Egyptians, Mayans and a few other ancients knew the cosmos better than anyone untill Carl saigan in the 1970s.

"I didn’t say I didn’t know how they did it .

Your comment about fuel shows you don't understand how spaceflight works. There's no air, so no drag. If the engines were firing constantly for six months, the spacecraft would be accelerating constantly for six months. It would be travelling far too fast to land on Mars, or even enter Martian orbit; it would go screaming past the planet at a literally astronimical velocity.

After separating from the launch rocket, the Insight spacecraft's engines only made six short burns, to put it on the correct course to make its rendevous. The rest of the time, it was just coasting along.

I think ancient Egypt is older than 60,000 years (or more near that figure)

I don't think it's 7,000 years or whatever they thought when they discovered it.

I think the Mayans were the same age also...

And the ancient khamer ruins at ankor wat

I think it's all much older than 10,000 years

Nobody has proof it's only a few thousand years old.

These civilizations were not basic enough to have come and gone in the space of a few hundred or 1000 years.

All right then, I was wondering if this would pop up, given the news.

I had a look into the Mars Rover a while back and must say there are some surprising things to uncover. Science and mathematics show some interesting things.

Maybe Prof. Brian Cox will one day elaborate more on the Crinoid fossil that was found, on Mars.

I would like to know more about the engineer who found the signal being received to and from the Mars Rover was arriving more or less instantly, leading him to conclude "wow, they must have invented a way to transmit at the speed of light"...

There are a few other questions to ask too.

No-one wants any trouble, really just wanna get to the bottom of things.

Does anyone know if the Mars Rover has a way to clean it's lens? Would be a massive oversight if they forgot that

That reminds me of the guy who tried to investigate the moon landings, going to Edgar Mitchell's house and ending up literally getting kicked in the ass by him haha.

The funny thing was, in the kerfuffle and haste to leave as he and his cameraman were kicked out, they forgot to take the microphones or switch them off, and later on heard Mitchell's son ask him "You want me to call the CIA? Have them waxed?"

That's a bit harsh! (I do like that smiley)

Anyone else seen the pics of all the NACA equipment and Mars Rover, trundling around on Devon Island and/or other remote places in the area (between Canada and Greenland)?

My Opinion: This could explain why there are what appears to be Lychen, fossils and other things, like what looks like a bit of wood etc in the Mars pics, and the Crinoid that Prof. Brian Cox is surprisingly silent about. What does Richard Dawkins think of it, given he just hosted a programme on Radio 4 this week, saying "science is under attack" (it isn't. Some of what some science people tell us is up for question, and Dawkins often goes on about how we should question things and not just believe what we are told)?

I think the explanation NASA will give will be something like "it's a test rover, in 'similar' conditions, to help mimic the conditions the actual Mars Rover is experiencing". And pictures from this are included amongst the actual Mars ones, since they are clearer and easier to use for the public.

Well ok then, we will see.

(I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be 'different' or anything else, I just think a lot of people don't know these kind of things, so I like to share what I've come across, for my benefit as well. It may be nothing, or... it may be something. And you can't rely on the British Bullshit Corporation for things like this).

Newton's first law of physics tells us "A body in motion remains in motion unless it is acted on by an external force". In the vacuum of space, there is no external force acting on an object to slow it down. The only fuel required is to accelerate the craft in the first place and then slow it at the other end.

Radio waves in a vacuum DO travel at pretty much the speed of light, they're only slowed by the atmosphere when they arrive.

First of all you obviously don't understand how they did it.

It doesnt use fuel it uses momentum from gravity

The space station is travelling at 18000 mph I think .do you think that's fake?

No object on the moon can be seen with a telescope

There’s no resistance in space. It reaches the velocity required using fuel. Then it literally keeps going as there is nothing to stop it. "

But you've just proved you don't know how they did it.

It takes off gets to speed and stop using fuel for 98% or more of the journey other than minor course corrections, there is nothing to slow it down, most of the electricity is generated from the unlimited and unobstructed solar power. Then when it gets there it uses fuel to slow down and land. Solar power on Mars is also very easy with such little atmosphere other than at night. It really isn't very hard to understand.

I don’t have a conspiracy theory . So I’m sorry I don’t have anything there to amuse you . I just ( as you point out on your next post ) , don’t really understand it all .

As I said , it’s difficult to see the point of it in the first place . We learned nothing from the moon landings apart from how old a few rocks were .

If the information we have thus far in Mars is true , it’s minus 83 degrees , has no water , nothing grows there , and once you’re there it’s unlikely you could come back . And what the fuck would you do for over six months on a spaceship ? Look forward to the new life on Mars ? It’s not exactly a pleasant prospect is it ? And remember , we knew all this before this landing , if we believe it happened .

When I was a kid at school , David Bowie asked if there was life on Mars . We had no idea , but it was just a fantasy then . My point is whether manned space flight crew have weapons and what are their intention to use them .. if they found an alien species would they kill it and take it back in the interests of science. Some very uncomfortable questions here

And If don't rule out that ancient civilization arrived on spacecraft..there are lots of books about this

"So apparently NASA has sent a ship to Mars , at speeds faster than a bullet , and it’s got there , landed , and now it’s taking selfies before drilling into the planet and sending us the info it gets .

Does anyone else think it’s a complete load of bollocks ? I mean seriously , it’s been travelling for over six months through millions of miles of unchartered terrain , yet there it is .

In my best Victor Meldrew voice “ I don’t believe it “ , and I really don’t .

So what's your conspiracy theory then? This should be funny.

We weren’t taught about splitting atoms , creating speed in space , zero gravity and it’s effect on propulsion etc.... or at least if we were taught it , I certainly don’t remember it or understand it . And other than a bit of ridicule from a few swingers on this site , it hasn’t troubled me at all . So I won’t be losing any sleep over my obvious lack of knowledge .

And there, in the last sentence, we have the nub of the problem.

If Mars in its ancient history ever had organic matter on it, there is a chance that there would be huge untapped mineral resources. If so, this would pay for further missions and research. Of the nearest possible places to get to with current technology, Mars has the atmosphere most conducive to sustaining human life. The other close alternative, Venus, is a shithole with temps at over 400 degrees. Similar to Syria

Lasers on space craft?

I think you have watched too many star wars films.

There are no little green men flying around between earth and mars.

There may be life out of our solar system but certainly nothing in it. Our solar system is so large a human will not live long enough to travel out.

There is no evidence of life off earth.

Mans greatest discovery one day will be we are either alone or we are not

On a similar subject any one ever seen the people who push this ancient aliens myth on history channel?

Youve pretty much answered your own question. If it had been a fake Russia/the then Soviet Union had the means to prove that it were a fake. The KGB had a number of operatives embedded throughout NASA. They also had the tech to track and monitor the US moon missions. If they had been in anyway faked the Russians would have produced the evidence for the world to see in order to discredit the Americans.

It's not a big expensive pointless hoax.

The world is round, evolution is real, astrophysics is real.

Another question. Who actually built the pyramids? How many men and years would it have taken to build just 1 of them. Im sure more than the life expectancy of most men at that time period"

Quite possibly, your average medieval Cathedral took 40 odd years to be built which was the life span of many at the time (hasnt it taken 100 years plus for the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona to be built? ).

I'm pretty sure your Egyptians didnt stop the moment the first worker passed away due to old age saying 'well that's it chaps best stop now, even if we are 20 years short of doing the pointy bit'

The estimates are that the Great Pyramid at Giza took about 20 uears to build. Monumental construction in Egypt benefited from the fact that the country had a comparatively large population who had very little to do for several months of the year, because the Nile had flooded all the farmland.

New evidence has also recently come to light as to how they were built. A chief architect of the time's tomb has been discovered and the original theory that they used huge ramps to drag the blocks to the upper levels has been confirmed by pictographs and hieroglyphs found in the tomb. The images show most of the workers are in traditional Egyptian clothing of the times showing that they were citizens and very few slaves, who were depicted differently.

A few engravings on stones and scidntists want to put their theory to be famous..

There is no evidence that ancient people did not come from space travel.

Don’t agree at all! Where is that evidence?

The Americans were behind the Russians. Russia sent the first man into space. We are all entitled to an opinion. Just answer 1 question. Why has it never happened again since???

In terms of humans not setting foot on the moon since Apollo 17, Congress funding was dramatically reduced after the 'race' was run. Once it either becomes commercially viable to return, or a necessary stepping stone to Mars, we will return.

I think the international space station will fullfill that role now. "

Probably in part, yes, but I have read articles where for certain things they will be eventually doing on Mars they need to test them out on the moon first.

Umm.. because nowhere near the same amount of money is being spent since the objective was achieved. So.... again....cost.

I still think you are all missing the point. The question asked was if the Americans are fake. Would you trust a country that has assassinated their own president??

I don't personally think I'm missing any point. You originally asked why they haven't been back to the moon. That was answered, although clearly not to your satisfaction.

Not debating the money spent on the supremacy for space and yes you make some valid arguments in support. But nevertheless I will always be of the opinion that it never actually happened. It's been widely debated for years as to whether it actually occurred. Always will be another unanswered question

I must admit that I've not seen a convincing argument for that.

flattards and moodtards often like to use the van allen belts as the go to that no space travel is possible..

despite it being van allen who actually did the work to get the astronauts into space by calculating the intensity and the amount of time the spacemen would travel through it... though flattards etc, will often cite "but duhhh van allen beltshhhh!!!"

I honestly am getting sick of conspiracies that actually make no sense...flat earth, moon hoaxing, chemtrails etc etc...

the costs to hide such amazing 'features', would be utterly pointless for a start..and thats just to shut up a few million people for a start.

and you really gotta ask yourself when a youtube 'scientist' dmarble...asks why the sky is blue, but space looks black..you know you're in trouble when he has several thousand idiots thinking this guy knows shit."

Wow, nice tone! I was actually referring to radiation (cosmic rays, solar flares etc.) beyond the Van Allen belts (hence my use of the word 'beyond'), but maybe the journey to the moon and back was short enough for them not to have been exposed too much and they possibly had to time the trips for period of low solar flare activity. By asking the question above I certainly wasn't suggesting I think they never went there - in fact all my comments on this thread have strongly said otherwise.

I'd suspect the above issue would be a major factor on a journey to Mars though. I wonder how they'll protect the crew?

You're nearly right. Radiation levels beyond the atmosphere aren't constant; as long as you're not in the path of the radiation stream from an event like a solar flare, getting to and from the moon isn't a problem. NASA used the best information available at the time to avoid that, but in the end they were rolling the dice every time; the odds of getting caught were pretty low, but definitely not zero.

Getting to Mars is a whole other story. The probability of being caught in a radiation burst goes up the longer your journey. Any sensible mission planner would have to assume the ship would be hit, and include a way for the crew (and the ship's systems) to survive it.

"I didn’t say I didn’t know how they did it .

The ship only needs fuel to escape the earth's atmosphere and gravity, after that, it's pre determined trajectory is such thst passes other planitary bodies closely using tbeir pull ov gravity to accelerate it. As it's travelling through a vacuum theirs no "drag" can go indefinitely.

To answer why do it, fuck knows lol

The Soviets, however, cut corners and took massive risks ( even by space program standards) to grab headline achievements. Once the massive US funding kicked in to achieve JFKs target, there was no way the Soviets could compete.

I must admit that I've not seen a convincing argument for that.

flattards and moodtards often like to use the van allen belts as the go to that no space travel is possible..

despite it being van allen who actually did the work to get the astronauts into space by calculating the intensity and the amount of time the spacemen would travel through it... though flattards etc, will often cite "but duhhh van allen beltshhhh!!!"

Any sensible mission planner would have to assume the ship would be hit, and include a way for the crew (and the ship's systems) to survive it."

That all makes sense. Thanks.

I did read proposed solution which involved parking the Mars rocket in a moon orbit and create a shield around it using cut and shaped moon Rock, allowing for much thicker shielding than could economically lifted into space from earth alone.

I'm not sure how that would work. You'd have to either leave the ship in orbit over the moon, which would leave it exposed to solar flares etc while you mined, shaped and installed the rock for the shield, or prefabricate the shield, which would require either maintaining a habitat on the moon or using some hugely advanced robitics to do the work. And all if that would have to be shipped up from Earth in any case. Probably better to just build the shield on Earth, you'd have vastly superior facilities.

I’ve been spending way too much time researching all this and more for the last couple of days .

From knowing next to nothing at the start , I’m now in a position of still knowing next to nothing .

The reality is this .

NASA tell us gravity and the pull of zero gravity will propel a ship at over 15,000 mph for over six months at this speed . All we have to do is aim it and allow for the pull of gravity that will happen when it gets close to anything up there .

Since it’s about 140 million miles away , it seems odd that it doesn’t come into contact with anything at all . And even odder that radiation doesn’t affect it , but it doesn’t , and after six months of traveling at 15.000mph , it gets to Mars and uses technology from here to slow down sufficiently to land on a planet 140 million miles away . And takes a selfie to prove it’s there .

Pretty marvelous isn’t it ?

But it makes you wonder how we lost a plane traveling from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing doesn’t it ? Just a few hundred miles and 38 minutes from where it took off , in our orbit , on a flight path etc..... yet we can keep tabs on a spacecraft traveling for six months at 15,000 mph for 140,000,000 miles , in an unknown environment that no one has travelled in except NASA . Then land it using remote control from here .

I’m still none the wiser , and I’m now beginning to think the moon landing may have been fake too .

set up a hab unit, digging up the rock for the shield frees up space for the underground part of a moon station, when enough material (many multiple tons if not hundreds) then send up the mars craft for its shielding.

If we are to have a sustained presence in space, including travel to other planets, then a base of operations on the moon would become fairly necessary. So why not build it from the get go.

Or perfect the technology to make a space elevator.....

Jack Swigert, of bone cancer in 1982 and Alan Shepard of leukemia in 1998. Leukemia is the form of cancer most closely associated with exposure to large amounts of ionizing radiation, though we have no way to know if Shepard's case resulted from the relatively modest radiation to which he was exposed during Apollo 14.

https://phys.org/news/2016-12-american-astronauts-dead.html

you might see many have died of heart problems..

As for those going to the moon..they received less radiation than those nearer the earths orbit..but who knows it might be too early to tell what may cause their death if it is indeed space related.

Apologies at the tone..I just find some things worrying...space deniers etc...are even claiming the challenger disaster astronauts are actually alive...the claims have been substantiated with pictures of brothers/sisters of the unfortunate astronauts.

Now thats a bit fucking disgusting.

One tiny bit of space rock hitting the LEM in 1969 at the speed it was travelling would have went through the millimetres-thick Aluminium hull like a bullet through a piece of paper. The Moon is peppered with rocks, space-dust and meteoric debris constantly. And those pieces are travelling VERY fast through the Moon's non atmosphere.

The FABRIC unpressurised suits the astronauts wore could not operate in the vaccuum of space. Let alone withstand the onslaught of changing heat and cold (from hundreds of degrees in the direct heat of the sun to absolute zero in shadows). They didn't carry enough power to run any kind of air-conditioning, cabin pressure or heating in the LEM. Remember... out of the Sun's direct rays the Moon plummets to -273 Celcius. Immediately. You die immediately... you don't play golf like Alan Shepard of Apollo 14 apparently did.

I'm not saying NASA didn't send rockets up into space or land something on the moon. They just didn't send teams of men there 50 years ago. It's that simple. Those are mock-ups filmed on Earth. Hard to admit but watch some of that "footage" it is only believable because that is what we have been told to believe. Regular earth Gravity filmed and slowed down by a factor of a third. Watch again - it is pitiful... they just didn't imagine we'd be able to examine it in detail years later and see the obvious fakery.

They couldn't send men to the Moon and bring them back in 1969 and they still cannot. NASA currently admits it cannot get people beyond Low Earth Orbit. The Moon Technology from 1969 - 1972 which enabled the USA to get men to the Moon and back SIX times without losing a life... has been "lost" apparently. That is a good enough admission for me.

So to travel 140,000,000 miles in six months and to not meet a single bit of debris seems highly unlikely too doesn’t it ?

"I didn’t say I didn’t know how they did it .

I simply asked if anyone else thought it was not for real . And I don’t understand how a solid object like the ship they’ve sent can move at speeds exceeding a bullet for over six months . The fuel required for such a feat would be overwhelming . "

Here’s the thing, due to space having no atmosphere & the laws of physics, specifically momentum, they wouldnt need much fuel at all. The momentum the ship would carry once breaching the atmosphere into outer space would likely be enough, since it faces no resistence or drag of any kind meaning it can consistently be at its terminal velocity.

Now, also given that the speed of sound is 767mph & planes can smash through that barrier whilst in earths atmosphere & the speed of a bullet is 1700mph I dont find it improbable (& neither do Nasa) that something in space could have & maintain a terminal velocity in excess of that.

Science.

It's the scientists complete self belief that is worrying me..

Only 50 years ago they had poor soldiers on Easter Island watching a nuclear explosion..

Technically it’s been travelling through millions of miles of a vacuum, the only terrain it’s encountered is when it landed on Mars.

Thats a pretty poor take on the basis that as humans we’ve mapped more of the moon than we have the oceans on earth, meaning in essence that if something crashed on the moon we’d have more chance of finding it than something crashing into the sea.

So what's your conspiracy theory then? This should be funny.

That assumes there’s a problem though "

"One tiny bit of space rock hitting the LEM in 1969 at the speed it was travelling would have went through the millimetres-thick Aluminium hull like a bullet through a piece of paper.

Yep , that makes sense .

So to travel 140,000,000 miles in six months and to not meet a single bit of debris seems highly unlikely too doesn’t it ?

People vastly underestimate how big space is, and how little is out there."

Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

"I didn’t say I didn’t know how they did it .

I simply asked if anyone else thought it was not for real . And I don’t understand how a solid object like the ship they’ve sent can move at speeds exceeding a bullet for over six months . The fuel required for such a feat would be overwhelming .

Science."

I just read that NASA reckon they will soon be able to get there in three days !

Something called DEEP , worth a read . No engines , photonics propulsion . 60,000km per SECOND they reckon .

So the Millenium Falcon in Star Wars will be in a spot of bother if we decide to challenge it to a race won’t it ?
