I just finished watching the last Samurai and I just realized Tom Cruise was the last samurai...

Then I realized Hawkeye was the last of the Mohicans and Tarzan was the biggest hero in Africa.....

Under the Duvet

Various reasons.

Because Tom Cruise or Daniel Day or the Tarzan guy are/were popular actors who can sell a film/ bring in an audience/ bring in the dollars.

Because these films were made at a time when thinking outside the box and getting someone "authentic" wasn't even a consideration.

And because at the end of the day Hollywood is still run by white guys to make money from people who (by and large and as box office dollar attests) still prefer films about white guys.

Amen sister - Hollywood has a long and dubious history of choosing not who may be best at portraying a given leading role, but rather which actor is presently most popular and subsequently bankable.

Basically it's always the Ruskies that are made out to be the bad guys with their henchmen. All hell breaks loose, then good guy runs off with fit babe.

Black panther did pretty well

Although I'm fairly bored of the marvel films, tend to like ambiguous ones if I'm honest, don't see many thought provoking ones though

It’s becoming so predictable.... I’ve stop watching most action movies...

It matters little about their religious beliefs, but the main thing is if they can do a convincing foreign accent, even I can walk like an Egyptian ffs

Give "The Raid" or "Train to Busan" a watch, not a single European hero in sight, but plenty of heroics

Because the books they are based on are aimed at western audiences and they think we need a western hero to identity with.

Tom Cruise wasn't the last samurai though. It was the story of a European who met the Last Samurai, Katsumoto and went on to study with him.

La Longe Carabine or Hawkeye as you call him wasn't a Mohican

The Tarzan books were a reaction to the Victorian notion that 'modern' industrial man was physically (and hence morally) weak and a long way from the physical prowess ideal embodied in the Ancient Greeks. The beginning of the modern Olympic Movement was another example of this fear.

Or ya know we just like to envision ourselves as the hero...

Hollywood is an industry with a majority white european audiance of course the majority or characters or going to embody that...

As a poster above said the bollywood amd Nigerian film industries do not have very many white faces

My dear Clem ...... Argentinaian films will have European heroes my friend....

Remember this is the country most of the Nazi’s went to after WW2... so they have a large population of people derived from German and Italian heritage....

I’m sorry I can’t comment about films from Nigeria or China..

So do you think there should be more Europeans in Bollywood films?

Do you think the Chinese should stop making films with Chinese people in them as hero's? Or do you just have a chip on your shoulder about Europeans in European films?

It's almost like Hollywood just wants to make money by casting white dudes in lead roles - haven't they heard of political correctness? James Bond should be Jane Bond and be portrayed by a one-legged black lesbian in a wheelchair. That'll get bums on seats

It worked well when they did it for Ghostbusters. What a blockbuster smash that film was.

Talking of Bollywood; They’re producing some awesome action stars at the moment.

Check out Tiger Shroff and Vidyut Jamwal (loads of clips of these guys in action on YouTube) - both amazing stars

Hollywood bias, basically.

Americans, rather than Europeans, are usually the heroes.

In fairness they played a significant role!!

Guess they make the film's to appeal to the market that's most likely to make them money regardless of accuracy.

The last of the Mohicans was actually Uncas, after the death of Chingachgook who, I believe, was his son, hence the last of the Mohicans !
