Heard a few rumours about why he killed himself. Anyone else heard anything?

Apols if it seems insensitive. I was as gutted as anyone else when I heard the news. Has it been discussed on here before?

i've heard a few rumours as well, if the rumours are true, it would take a brave newspaper to print it

Would love to know why LUFC legend Gary Speed saw fit to end it all. Seemingly perfect life with a great future.

Allegedly the Sun was going to out him...as reported by the daily telegraph, the sun deny it.

According to someone who knew him, whom i trust, he was a lovely guy,who did fuck around with women...so he wasp bi,not gay,if there were any truth in the sun story.

Whatever the reason my heart and prayers go out to his family

You totally right, but we also hope his children and wife don't have to be at the centre of newspaper claims too.

Well I just hope that the person who did approach him with the threat has nightmares about Garys children crying for their dad, for the rest of their life. The media are just bang out of order. Anything to sell papers is good for them the fuckers.

The all encroaching media should fluch out this unscrupulous bastard, give us a name. For me they are an accessory to his death. It is blackmail and they should be prosecuted for it.

What is sadder is the fact he couldn't do what other people do and admit it. The media make such a big thing about sexuality and forget the pain and heartache that it can bring to those who have to live a lie. If the media made it more acceptable then we wouldn't have this problem and people could lead the lives that make them happy.

It shouldn't be left alone though internet forums are probably not the best place. The tabloids are scum and if true The Sun are hypocrites for all there subsequent reporting on it. Plus it may actually do something to challenge homophobia within football.

There will be an inquest, it could well come out then.

I totally agree, let the man RIP. I lost my brother 6 months ago and recently things were said about stuff he had done in the past, that we were not aware of. My point is why, bring things up now after they are gone. Whatever the right or wrongs of a persons life, let them RIP and leave the family with some dignity.

All these 'outing' rumours seem to have been running around 27th-29th November last year, so is this really news?

The coronoer won't record cause of death as 'being a homosexual' so the poor guy and his family should be left alone, it serves no purpose whatsoever to dredge up stuff about the man's sexuality now he's not here to defend himself.

"The man is dead.....can't he be left alone to rest in peace?"

Why is there a thread on this?

Why would people want to bring up or discuss these rumours?

We get the press we deserve.

I'm with Jane on this.

it was discussed exstensively at the time it happened and to my knowledge we have no more information on they 'why' now than we did then, all people are doing is speculating.

Maye its none of the above, maye there was somethign deeper, just because he was in the public eye doesnt mean we know everything that was going on with his life

there is nothing to be gained from knowing why.

people are always curious as to the reason ..i myself just wondered if being gay was going to be the reason but i have no idea..its a shame if he was and was afraid to be outed, he should have taken a leaf out of the rugby player gareth thomas's book whos life he freely admits has been so much better since he came out ...

got into an arguement before xmas regarding this, lad in the pub saying he has 'connections' and that duncan ferguson had been sleeping with the poor guys wife for years, hence the suicide. He took great pleasure in voicing this up and my suggestion that he had some respect didnt go down too well...he was ok and did pipe down, but the others listening to him didnt react too well as they wanted to know more

Never met gary speed myself, but as with all celebs who die early, they deserve the right to be left alone and their families left to rebuild their lives.

So what if he is gay or whether he slept with a million of women. Its not for us to discuss but for Gary's family to morn their loss. We are just as bad as the papers for discussing the rumours.

i am not sure how much of this "legally" can be discussed..... so before anyone says anything i would think very..... very carefully as the mods here may have to remove the thread....

i think a lot of people will have heard rumours.. of which i am not going to discuss them here... but in the end we lost a very good person, and that fact should never be forgotten

Oh come on, get a grip, who is really going to be trawling this website with a _iew to suing anyone who posts an opinion about Speed's sexuality when there are so many more very well known sites (twitter, f/book et al) posting millions of messages regarding the same issue.

Talk about being over sensitive.

"I just think how bad he must have felt to do this to himself ,"

it is an easy trap to fall into jo

before i accepted my sexuality, there was more than one occasion where i regarded suicide as an easier option than 'coming out'

and i am not a public figure or held in esteem by thousands and neither did i have a wife and kids

so if indeed the intimations are factual then i can associate with his pain and inner turmoil

A good person in what sense of the word - how he made millions and gave ppl a game of football for ppl to enjoy

Whats good about leaving a child fatherless. I really feel ashamed. I hate to think what will happen when his kids grow up and other kids are mean. From a mental level how will this work?

ppl take love for granted - love is faith. you take it from day to day. I think you have to doubt yourself in order to keep it real

silence allows him to sleep peacefully.

if words need exchanged, let them be within his immediate family to allow healing.

other than that, it is no one's business.

Sometimes, a little dignity if we may.

"The man is dead.....can't he be left alone to rest in peace?"

Totally agree Jane...but why let some guys death, his families privacy, morals etc stand in the way of a good story.

Heard loads of rumours involving other players, the parentage of his kids, his sexuality...all of which may satisfy 'curiosity' but will drag out the pain for his wife and family.

Whatever the rhyme and reason his kids must be protected no matter what..

I was under the impression parents were supposed to protect the kids.

Where has honesty gone in this society. locked itself in shame. How ironic. i blame ricky gervais film the art of lieing in treating 'honesty' as something disgusting. When honesty may have protected him, and his family.

If a parent hasn't the ability to look after kids and we have to ignore (as it's not our business) how then can a child ever become normal.

OMG the man is dead n yes he was a public figure but his private life has nothing to do with anyone but him. The word desrection is used alot on here is it not. How do we know his family didnt know,we dnt because what goes on behind closed doors is n should be private. People should leave his memory and his family alone

I was using that film as an aid to saying that ppl laugh at HONESTY when in fact Gary Speeds story is the very reason why ppl whould obey it

If honesty teaches us anything it is that we should use only use emotions as a guide not an absulut certainty...

what utter rubbish..

the 'hypocricy' angle just does not cut it, cant ever seem to recall the guy standing and advocating 'family values' if thats the reason you are refering to 'hypocricy'?

he was an ex footballer tuned manager, not the Secretary of State for families ffs..

who cares what or whom or when blah blah he alledgedly was, he was a Dad to 2 grieving kids..

Got to assume you have never had any things in your life you are happy for the world to know about, your friends and work colleagues are ok with this aspect of your life then?

Whatever the reason for a man to take such a drastic and desperate action is no-ones business but his own family..

Sickening lack of humanity on here at times..
