Sometimes U.K

A friend proudly presented me with a ‘special bottle’ of wine as a thank you a couple of weeks ago. It wasn’t a pleasant wine.

Tonight I’ve made a vegetable gratin using the wine for the sauce and it tastes good!

The worst red wine tends to make the best mulled wine

The worst white wine tends to make the best fondue

Absolutely, if a wine's not good enough to drink it certainly isn't good enough to cook with.

Wine not good enough to drink? ? I'd still down it if it had the desired effect...! (Just to say, I get exceptionally filthy on the fermented grape. . Just ask my other half!! )

Worst I’ve ever had was in Morocco - a ghastly locally brewed concoction.

A good rioja or a new world Merlot always goes down a treat .

You mean to say you won’t be sharing if I splash out on a decent new world wine?

You’re a hard woman to please...

Was Ice Wine, perhaps too sweet for my taste and not corked.

Mixed in with veg OXO, bay leaves, lemon juice and cooking cream made a pretty decent sauce.

Yes a definite win win

Any decent wine poured into a cooking pot is a decent wine wasted in my book.

Ask a decent chef and they will disagree. Never use shit wine in good food.

A decent red thrown into the pot and evaporated away is a crying shame in my book.

Then again, I guess I’m fruity enough already not to need it...

It's the alcohol and water that evaporates, philistine!

Alcohol boils at 80ish degrees, does it not? So it boils off long before the water content.

That’s a crying shame for any decent wine... I’d far rather drink it, so as to enjoy it as it was intended .

I just do both. I like to enjoy my food as much as my wine. If the wine enhances it then good.

Couldn't agree more, a good dish is only as good as the ingredients you put in.
