NYE a little subdued?

I was out in Portsmouth last night and visited a couple of pubs...met Elvis no less.

Came home with the distinct impression that NYE was a little quiet and subdued; very much like the reality of the economy was hitting home and that people were cutting back; indeed the pubs were far from full.

Was this anyone elses experience or was I just in the wrong places?

I went out for an hour with a friend in Swindon, the pub was quite quiet. We walked past another pub on the way home and that had even less people in!

Ooh which pub? Although most pubs round here are a bit naff anyway.

Oh I haven't got a clue what they were called. One was beside the old town and ended in Oak. White building with black timbers. Sorry I am clueless

Oh yes I know the one you mean. Never seen anyone in there although I quite often go to one just around the corner called the steam railway.

Well that was the quiet one we walked past. The one we drank in was about 100 metres further down the street opposite the garage.

Yep, I know it... that's the one I go to every now and then. Kinda surprised it wasn't very busy. People tend to go there before hitting the bars in nearby Wood Street.

Maybe they'd heard I was having a quiet night in so didn't bother going out

I'm at the age now when going out for NYE is a waste of time. Most places you usually go to now charge to get in; just so you can get squashed at the bar for hours trying to get served. Plus all the idiots who are usually responsible for ruining a standard evening are in full force that night Though this may just be Guildford lol.

Its why i believe house parties are the way forward for end of year celebrations; Drink from supermarkets, people you love and respect and (this year not an issue) generally not freezing my arse off!

Last night for me was a few friends, Top magic tricks, MOTD and Jools Holland. Fantastic night.

Saving my money for next sat for a friends birthday instead

Kingston

got out my kilt and went dancing - had a great time - just because I don't drink and Jive doesn't mean you can't enjoy yourself

Nearly 200 people did the same
