How good are you at them? Im crap really or was. I had a few that lasted up to about a year, three that lasted about 18 months. Two that lasted just over 4 years. I worked this out one night during one of my insomina nights and me and Jay celebrate 5 years together in may but working it out by months in January it will be the longest relationship ive ever been in at nearly 47

25 years with my husband. I had his mum over for Christmas day and we speak most days. July would have been our 30th wedding anniversary.

My current friend has been in my life four years.

I've only had one other boyfriend and that was nearly two years.

I'm good at relationships.

How long is a relationship supposed to last ?

A relationship is just that.

How do you judge it a failure? Because you didn't die first ?

Some odd thoughts go on in here.

A relationship is good for as long as it's good.

I cant see anywhere where anyone has said they are a failure because they cant/dont want to hold down a long term relationship

I seem to meet complete utter dicks!! I was married for 3 yrs but the actual marriage lasted 3 weeks he forgot to mention he was seeing someone else. We lived together for 3 years as I was to proud to go back to England.

I had a 4 year relationship with a guy in the army.

Had a 2 year abusive relationship and the odd 6 months here and there.... maybe 2012 is my year!! haha

I've had a few relationships... The good ones tend to make you a better person and you can take that into your next relashionship.

Hope to meet a new soul mate soon.. But I can't have a relashinship with just anyone.. Special people don't come that offern ;(

Pretty ok with relationships overall, one lasted 19 years, the present one almost 6 and going well.

I read somewhere the following : Some people come into your life for a season and some come into your life for a reason.

On that note I would kind of agree with what Granny said...

Relationships dont have to last for a certain amount of time.. and I dont see the break up of a relationship as a failure necessarily. It may just mean that the relationship has run its course?

From that stance I find it easier to remain friends with some people...

Happy new Year to everybody btw xx

Another point to stimulate your brain cells.

Some people choose "life" partners, others move from one relationship to another.

Both types are ok, polygamy and monogamy are something else though.

I wonder if people who are in a polygamous relationship see themselves as being in a stable relationship?

Swinging isn't the same as polygamy, but I wonder if any people on here practice polygamy?

I live with 2 people that are married. We met on another site when we went to a social together. We had a 3sum, but because of the distance chatted a lot on msn and phone. So found we had a lot of mutual interests, and that we got on great together.

2 years on their lodger was moving out, and they wanted another. I moved in, because I was bored where I was, and it was a good opportunity. 3 years, I'm still here.

We still have sex occasionally, they are 2 of my best friends, and I love their daughters (who call me Aunty Katie), like the nieces we tell people they are.

It's not a polygamy relationship, I know their relationship is the most important thing, but sometimes it comes close.

It takes two to make a marriage work. How do you know which one is to blame when a marriage doesnt work? and if you have only been married once how do you know if it really is a good marriage if you have nothing to compare it to?

Definition of a "good relationship" to me is that I can be totally myself with the other person, that he will accept me for what I am and not try and change me in any way. It also means mutual trust, respect and shared values (not necessarily shared opinions) and a feeling of being "more complete" with him.

It also means passion and good sex but the friendship aspect comes before that.

Others may value different things in a relationship...

Ive been with my husband since i was 16 11yrs and to be honest i wouldnt know where to start if i was single lol been soo long and i was young when i met him with little experience. But i wouldnt swop him for the world its all about finding the right person for you. I beleive theres atleast one person out there for everyone its just finding those people. But those who experience relatioships that dont last i wouldnt give up.

first one sep 1988-aug 1995

second one dec 1995-now

third one july 2006-now (if ya count a LT fb)

so i've had lasting relationships, the key (i believe) being that i've either been honest with them from the start or have levelled with about my sexuality / sexual needs at some point early on.

2 years with a no-gooder who stole from me; then 10y with my ex hubby (married for 7y); left him for my late partner and spent 4 good years together until he died of an accident; then 5 months with a mistake that I would like to forget; single in between, and have been single since Jul 2010.

I am too set in my own ways and independent to be able to conform to a normal relationship and live with another person under the same roof full time.

that's why myself and mrs bus prefer to keep seperate houses. if we were under the same roof 24/7, one of us would now be under the patio !

unconventional set-up, but it works for us and that's what makes the bond we have stronger as neither of us works to the set 'norm' and assume that it must work either in a certain way or it isn't working
