Did your parents ever sing you lullabies that you recall? Or do you sing one for a loved one at all?

My mumma sang me Golden Slumbers and Hush Little Baby, Don’t Say A Word.

Somewhere In The Ether…

Yes indeed - soothed me off to the land of nod every night.

....Except for one scary bloody one which started off; ‘Someone came knocking at my wee small door......’

Northern England

My dear old Dad used to sing "The Skye Boat Song" to me at bedtimes. We played it at his funeral, and I still get a lump in my throat (gulp) when I even think of it.

I sang it to my children too - along with "Sweet Baby James" by James Taylor.

My mum used to sing to us all the time.

I sang Morningtown Ride to my children, that I think I learnt from her.

Also, Go to Sleep my Baby.

Probably more that I've forgotten as it was so long ago my children were babies.

Oh yes, I sang the Skye Boat song to my children too. I learnt it when I was in the choir at school.

No, I don’t remember being sing lullabies.

However, I attempted it with my daughter when was a toddler and she put her hand over my mouth to stop me

I used to say a prayer with my nana every night I stopped at her house which was;

Now I lay you down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep; If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take.

And my mum, God love her, sounds like cats being harmed when she sings so opted for this poem;

Cleaning and scrubbing can wait 'til tomorrow

For babies grow up we've learned to our sorrow,

So quiet down cobwebs and dust go to sleep

I'm rocking my baby, and babies don't keep.

My mum had that printed on a plaque in her kitchen.
