So from an earlier thread that was from a member who was clearly looking for support and advice due to depression. What should we as fab members do to help these people.

We sit miles away from these people trying to offer support or any help we can not knowing whether it will make a difference or not

Some advice could possibly break the rules of fab as in providing contact information which by the rules of fab is not allowed but my question is should certain circumstances override rules and regulations to provide support to others who genuinely need it. Or should we just sit back and say nothing for fear we break the rules ?

Better to google help lines and pass them on to them or advise the person in need of help what to google.

It can be different for everyone

What works and helps one person may not have the same effect on others.

Also even though have done it myself, discussing on social media can make things worse not better, especially if you are like me and compare yourselves to others. Can feel others are coping better or your problems are not as bad as others.

"Better to google help lines and pass them on to them or advise the person in need of help what to google. "

But my question if you were to post details such as that in the thread rather than in a PM would it be the right thing to do

Well as we know the rules of the site say you should not post contact details emails websites etc in the forums but say someone was crying out for help and saying things that you were concerned about. And you tried to PM them but they had blocked all messages so to try help them you posted in the thread details of where they could get support. Your not advertising a competitor website only a support group or professional support group. This means your breaking the fab rules So should you just go ahead and post or basically say Jump to avoid a telling off from the site

I would like to think admin would have the sense that people were genuinely trying to help someone who is crying out for help.

However, sadly,I doubt that would be the case,

I have posted a link to a domestic violence website and one to a men’s specific depression group - both posts removed.

Sadly, it’s not flexible.

Get creative. You can signpost without giving the specific address.

It is a shame we can post news articles but not support networks.

It is a shame, some people have some very useful information on here, for us all.

Oddly I did with the men’s support group - it wasn’t a link posted, but still taken down.

Doesn't make sense to me Estella.

I didn't know that was a rule. It doesn't make much sense to me if they are genuine support services and could actually help a person in need.

To answer the OP's question I'd risk the ban and post it anyway, I'd hate to think I could've helped someone and didn't.

I'd give enough information for the person to Google it. If they're on here they have the internet so they can Google.

I wouldn't tell someone to jump just so that I'd avoid a forum ban.
