" No it's not stealing and I wasn't having a go at you, but put yourself in the place of that person getting up the next day to run their kids to school thinking their car was charged. As fun and mischievous as it might seem at the time, it could really disrupt a families life

"If you saw an electric car charging from a lamppost, would you disconnect it?" You probably couldn't. I have an electric car. When they are charging, the cable is locked into the car's inlet and you have to stop the charge and unlock the car for the solenoid in the inlet to let go of the cable. The same will certainly apply to a lamppost charging cable. And remember, there are at least 7kw going through these cables, so anyone stupid enough to snip them will light up like a Christmas tree. It is a very good point all the same. Charging from street lamps is a very new and potentially problematic thing.

"There's a socket installed in the lamp post?" One stumbling block for EV adoption is the lack of off road parking for so many people. One answer is using street lamps. Now street lamps use LEDs, they draw less current and so they have enough spare capacity to charge cars, so councils have been installing charging ports. https://www.zap-map.com/london-borough-switches-on-lamp-post-chargers/

Well, I wouldn't. I wouldn't smash a car window, or break an aerial off, or a wing mirror, or put a traffic cone on the roof. But i have thought these thoughts. Which means other people also will act upon them.

"I'll be concerned for my health when the whole world's electric Can't be good for us " Know what you mean. All those houses with electricity and people using them fangled electric phones. Be better keeping diesel particulates, and reverting back to candles, carrier pigeon, slide rules and outdoor sports.

If you look into how environmentally unfriendly the battery production is you might think twice about which pollutes the most.

"If you look into how environmentally unfriendly the battery production is you might think twice about which pollutes the most. " The media bangs on about how environmentally unfriendly it is to manufacture an electric car (it isn't particularly) but conveniently forget about the impact of manufacturing the ICE cars AND THEN the environmental impact of finding drilling sites, manufacturing and operating oil rigs and the transport infrastructure of getting petrol/diesel to the pumps. Electric cars are FAR greener overall than ICE cars. Especially now the technology and economy of scale of wind farms means they produce energy for HALF the price of the (subsidised) new Hinckley Point C nuclear power station. What a waste of money that is. I did the research before I bought my electric car.

"I would imagine that d*unken students will be captivated by them...." Don’t worry, they won’t be intelligent enough to work out how to disconnect it. Mind you after their year out they might suss it out.

"Did you research it’s worth after 5 years? Good luck getting Jack for it after that." All electric company cars are written off 100% after 12 months. And Ioniqs are holding their value very well so far. Although the new Kona blasts it in terms of range. Still, it’s good to be an early adopter, and it’s saved us a packet in fuel and tax.
