"Meh .. I'm not bothered either way. I don't have children or much family so it's not a financial nightmare. I'll see friends for copious amounts of booze in December and a small family dinner on Xmas Day that will be cooked for me Spend NYE in pyjamas loving the fact I'm not spending stupid amounts of money in crowded places being fake. And then get double time on New Years Day at work. Happy days. " With you in that. I dont have finacial worries on Christmas having no kids and not much close family. But i was in a relationship for 5 years and know what its like for those who do have kids. Its not easy getting all the latest tech and games for kids these days. Christmas is expensive. When I was a kid it was a choice of few little or 1 big thing. Now its a main present. Few big presents. And lots of crap that theyll use once and just keep in a cupboard and play with it now and again and you have to tell them to tidy it up everyrime!!.... getting back on subject... my ex had 3 kids and we both put £300 in for each one. It always went over. Then you got food. Loads of treats. Frozen food that some of it will be in the freezer for years. Lots of expense for those who have a family too support. It's especially hard for single mothers! The last thing they want to do is let down their kids by not getting the latest presents. It's not a greed thing from the kids it's society! Advertising shoved everywhere! All these smartphone apps have tons of advertising now. I think the government and retail outlets should subsidize single mothers on a low income by giving them heavily discounted store cards. It's the government and retailers making the kids want these things. They just want you spending cash now. Big retailers shouldn't make a profit off single mums at Christmas. It's hard for single mums and my thoughts are with them this time of year as my mum was one too.

"Getting yourself in debt when you have a family to provide for is madness If you can't afford the latest tech then don't buy it! Your kids will get over it. Your credit might not " Easier said than done. Can't empathize when you dont have kids.

"Hi . Have seen a lot of threads on here about Christmas . It's only November . So does anybody dread Christmas or hates? All you want to do is hide under your duvet and hybernate til it's over . Or do you plaster a fake smile on and get on with it ? " Yep nothing fun about a 12 hour shift listening to how wonderful the day is bla bla bla

"The most important thing is buying the kids everything they ask for. When they're living in a hostel when their house is repossessed they'll have lots of lovely memories. "
