"WEEK FORTY SEVEN!!! . MOTTO: We run #LikeAToddlerChasingAPug . . . Hey lovely Fab Crap Runners! It's Week Forty Seven!!! . . . How is everyone doing? . . . EXPLANATION AND ETHOS: EVERYONE is welcome in the Fab Crap Runners' Club (the crapper the better). From 1st January, a bunch of Fabbers began improving their fitness through running. None of them were natural athletes but they did it anyway. . . . FOR COMPLETE BEGINNERS: "Couch to 5k" (C25K) is a nine-week running programme for absolute beginners, available on various free phone apps (Mrs T (not me!) used Get Running). But you can join this thread to get fit by any means including walking and cycling - all are welcome. If you're expecting to be utterly crap at it (I mean reeeeeeeeeally bad), you're in the right place. Join the thread, tell us what your aim is and we'll cheer you on each week, just for trying. . . . FOR MORE EXPERIENCED RUNNERS: Tell us what you’re up to with your running, your training and your races. Let’s us know your highs and lows. Please cheer on the newbies and give advice if they ask. . . . FCRC SOCIAL PARKRUN WD is doing a doodle poll to find out where everyone can get to with ease before organising the next social. https://doodle.com/poll/77nghmke7uwunrwy Again, it's completely anonymous and you can vote for as many options as you would like. Hopefully the regions are self-explanatory (Sorry if you think your county should be in a different region!) . . AND FINALLY: Who is working towards a specific goal? Tell us your progress"

"Was meant to do my last 10k of the year on Sunday just gone in Coventry. But had a problem with the car so didn't make it and was gutted .. so now going into the maintenance phase for me, running 2 maybe 3x per week between 5-8k, depending on the weather, I will be doing some of it on a treadmill... Will also be concentrated more so on the weights. Over the wintertime. Have already booked to do a 10k in Leicester and a Half Marathon over in Derby. Might even go down and do a couple of 10ks in London.." I've been Maintaining (for That, read doing feck all!!) For way too long now, really need to start putting it in come rain or shine for the next 5 months

"I think I’m officially a crap runner convert! After some life upheavals got in the way of training seriously, I decided to get back to the gym today and start at the beginning of couch 2 5k. So happy I did, those endorphins are addictive!!! I’m training for a 10K in May in oxford, so trying to get ahead of the post Christmas curve, and make sure I’m in a better place now than I would be in the new year. What do people do on the ‘rest’ days? My gym background is strength training, is this ok to do on the off days of c25k? Warm up and cool down on the bike or the elliptical too? Thanks " Any kind of cross training is good, provided it's low impact ie gives your joints time to recover. Listen to your body though, if you start to feel jaded when you tun, or your performance is going downhill, then lay off for a while and have a proper rest day x

"A lot of people on my social media timeline run 5km in sub 25 mins and I felt inadequate compared to them " Now I feel bad I try not boast about times on social media for this reason, certainly not in running groups, I;m more likely to say that I was pleased, or best time for weeks/months/years rather than a time. The people I hate are the ones on running groups who love their humblebrags "Easy 5 mile recovery run for me today" completed with a strava link of 7 minute miles. I just think that they are wankers!

I look and think why can’t I do a 25 mins 5km then look at my waistline and realise that’s why.... For me I boast because I think anywhere sub 30 mins for a 5km is a half decent time and if I am doing below 32 then I am doing OK

I think it's quite widely recognised that high train8ng volumes can hammer your immune system. Need to make sure you are getting enough rest and good quality sleep, and if posdible, no stress in your life!

I try to do three runs in a 7 day period. Also I try to not to run flat out for all 3 runs. So I may either reduce distance or reduce pace The c25k is a good program and I know a lot that have got on well with it. I find a bit restricted for treadmill runners like myself. So ended up doing my own thing. When I restarted at the gym I was doing 1.8km in 15 mins and struggling. Now I regularly run between 2.4 and 2.6km with no impact to breath in same period. I also tend to do 4km near enough all the time now You will get there and also take it slow and steady. No one wants an injury as that can put you back 2 or 3 weeks
