Legally buy but illegal to own!

Ok so I invested in my Gerber tool knife thingy for backpacking. Anyway, it's a lock knife which is illegal to carry around with you. But it's legal for me to buy. How stupid!

What other things can you buy legally but is illegal to own?

There was a piece on jeremy vine yesterday about motorised scooters that you can buy but you can't use on the road or pavement... one boy did and he got 6 points to put on his future driving licence

Depends where you are, what you are doing?

The law specifically mentions multi-tools when it says that “lock knives” are illegal to carry in public if you don't have a “good reason” to carry one. ... Lock knives of any size are illegal. Locking blades seem to change the nature of the law.

The good reason bit can be the main part.

I have one in my car door, another in my motorbike jacket. I need it more for the bike, bits keep falling off it.

I take one with me when I cycle, in case I need a tool to fix the bike after crashing it.

All lockable blades are banned . You can only carry a folding blade no longer than 3 inches .

I carry my trusty Swiss army knife when I'm out in the hills

It’s not illegal to own, it’s illegal to carry without reasonable excuse.

If you had it in your pack while camping, backpacking, bivi bagging or doing bush craft you are fine. You do however need the land owners permission to be doing that. Or it be a public area.

Even a legal to carry pocket knife with blade of under 3” that does not lock open could get your collar felt under the sharp or pointed article legislation depending on where you had it, like at a football match etc

"Are all lock knifed illegal now I thought it was down to the length of blade ??"

Any lock knife is illegal in public, they’re prohibited articles. A pen knife or any knife that doesn’t lock with a blade of 3 inches or less is legal to carry in public.

Illegal without reasonable excuse. Check with your local cuntstabulory and any other farces area you may pass through for how they interpret that.

It will be different on the orcneys compared to South Harrow.

There are a few lawful excuses for carrying one, religious/ceremonial reasons, for use in the course of your work, part of national costume or to display in a museum or other display. The onus being on you to prove that’s what you are doing. You can legally carry any folding pocket knife with a blade less than 3 inches, as long as it doesn’t lock. Obviously places like airports and football games etc have their own restrictions.

Well, the actual law on offensive weapons says something like, any article designed, adapted or commonly used as a weapon, when carried without legal reason.

So you can zip yo katana in yo katana bag, pack up yo hakama an PJs and go to iado class and make like Afro samurai all you like, take your nunchucks to Kung fu class and do the Bruce Lee or pack your axe and go do woodcraft and make like the guy with the bear in gentle Ben.

But you can get fucked over for having a half inch lock knife in your pocket in the pub.

In the UK you can carry the knife with you as long as you have a good use for it. Ie it's in your rucksack with your camping gear, but not if it's in your pocket with no other camping gear. It's a bit like a baseball bat in the car is going armed and with a glove next to it your playing a sport.

I beleive the idea is a bit obsolete now, geeks listen to control towers and planes, maybe random civil radio traffic.

All the police radios are airwave and they work like mobile phones.

Those speed cam radars are naughty, and I think you can still buy the number plates that can’t be photographed but are a no no on the roads.

And the next question off the police will be ‘where’s the game?’ Quickly followed with ‘when did you last play?’ And the sound of speed cuffs coming out the pouch.

Just careful it stays in hold luggage not hand luggage (obviously) and just check laws where you are going.

Just to be safe.

Even if you hand stuff in, unless there’s the amnesty bin on the go, they just stick it in lost property and bin it all after 3 months.

If it’s drugs or something then that would be booked in as criminal property and disposed of but run of the mill things like phones, purses etc aren’t dealt with by the police any more. Not as a general rule anyway.

But it always makes me laugh when on the TV the police go into someone's house and the TV reporter start's on about the person having a sword or Airsoft gun.And how it's really bad. And anyone having them should be in jail.
