If you unexpectedly came into money , what would you do with it?

"If you unexpectedly came into money , what would you do with it?"

Say nothing. Go for a quick holiday using my holiday allowance at work.

Then…

Sit on it quietly for a year whilst a good tax accountant sorts out the money and advice on how I can live comfortably till I drop dead.

There ain't no pockets in a shroud.

Have a bloody good Christmas. I'd take my friends and family to the Christmas wonderland in Edinburgh and force them to nothings like ice skating.

I did when my dad died a couple of years ago, I still haven't even had it transferred over into my account yet or thought about what I'm going to do with it. I just wish my dad was still here instead

Put it away for a rainy day saying that you can come into £100 or £100,000 you would do different things with both.

Sorry to be harsh, but why not, it's doing nothing where it is, I assume it was you Dad's wishes for you to have it, so have it and make the best of a bad deal. Hate to say it but he's passed and wishing him back isn't going to work. Do something positive with it, buy something to remember him buy, charitable donation, whatever, but not touching it is just silly IMO and with all due respects. ps had to go through this last year after my mother passed.

It depends how much it is.

Ideally I'd like to tell everyone to go fuck themselves and run away

Thing is I don't really need it at the moment (which is a nice position to be in after spending all my 20's skint!), I'm not super rich or anything but I'm earning a good wage in both my jobs. What I'm probably going to do is stick it in an ISA and let it sit there until such a time that I do need it, whether that's retirement or I find myself out of work or whatever. He left me a couple of other things that were hobbies of his that are also worth a small fortune, I could sell them but to be honest I think I'll keep them as he put so much work into them.

If it was a decent amount left I would probably blow it all on taking out contracts on a few on here How much does a hit cost? How many would I be able to get for 50k?

I bought something nice from 'Mum and Dad' and whacked the rest into premium bonds and pension, so havent used it per se but have used it in some respect.

I’m sure your dad wouldn’t want his hard earned money wasted mate. You could get hit by a bus tomorrow without spending a penny of it. Life if for the living, I’m sure he left you that money so you could make good use of it. Make the most of it I say, your memories of your dad will always be there regardless of what you do with his money.
