I quite like mine, it's just over minimum wage in a shop but colleagues and manager are nice. I've worked in some disgraceful retail environments so feel quite lucky. Also do few hours event managing which is great socially

Mine is fine, everything about it suits me. I like the location, the hours are great, the pay is good and the job is interesting but not too taxing.

There is only one issue which is they was annual leave is allocated. They have changed things recently and they way it’s now done has a negative impact for me. Hubby works for the same company, in a different location and union agreed in the last pay discussion that spouses should be allowed holidays together. However, in practice it’s not happening. I’ve been denied the same holiday weeks as him this year and the new process means that we may not get a holiday together for the next 5 years

I’ve had to tell my boss that I can’t contemplate the thought of no holiday together for that period of time and am now looking elsewhere

Jez 43 isn't too old to retrain or to change profession.A friend of mine is currently doing a Health Care Assistant course,9 months long & he's 46 now.He was working IT before so it was a big change for him but he's enjoying the HCA course.There's a good mix in his class of mature students & youngsters.

For the most part, I don't mind it. Most days are different and a challenge. Downsides is that management make it far harder than it should be some days and we do have to deal with some utter oxygen thieves at times but the pay compensates for it lol

I’m self employed. Have been now for 5 years. Love what I do.

Visit customers at their homes and have great regulars.

Best thing is the cuppa given at virtually every house. All done with a smile.

I used to hate my old job, so I did the right thing and researched stuff, then set up alone.

Do it it’s the way forward.

Mr: Hated my job in Graphic Design/printing.. it was boring and soul destroying, paticularly the awfully frustrating management who just seemed to not care or want to improve the awful way things were (or rather weren't!) done.

So, I started a radical plan last year to change career... I trained up as a plumber and am now self-employed, part-time plumbing and still part time Graphic design. Plan is to move completely into plumbing as the business takes off

Mrs: Very happy with the company she works for. They treat her well and she regularly excels in her role.

We would say it's never too late to change career if it's so bad it's affecting your mental health.

Im a bit 50/50.

Its a job many people would love to do (in principle) and i've been in this one longer than any other, used to like it but the culture changed with new owners, now its a bit Meh! with added hassle and pressures.

Little chance of promotion internally (not that i'm that interested in that change) and its not in their interests to promote me out of the role i do as they can't find anyone else with the skills to do it- they've been looking for a mini me for 4 years now...unless they seriously up the salary- in which point i'll stay anyway.

Have had a few interviews elsewhere, always with the same result- blown away with my skillset and experience but not exactly sure what the hell to do with me if they gave me a job- the joys of being an oddball geek!

So currently doing yet more training courses to widen out what i can do to some associated fields. I think i'm probably too old for yet another career change and it would just increase the WTF? factor for anyone reading my CV anyway

I don't really work now as such, but when I did I loved both the "main" jobs I did. One I felt was contributing to the betterment of others, and the second contributed to the betterment of myself. I was lucky that I could choose what I wanted to do with my life twice. I feel sorry for those who don't even get one chance. OP, all I can say is - if you can't enjoy your work, enjoy your non-work just as hard as you can

The people are great, the managers are supportive and so much room for personal career development. Pay is good. It’s local

But highly demanding, a lot of responsibility, long hours, full time which is hard as a single parent, and there’s certain times of every month we can’t take holiday so we all scrat around trying to take available days between us but so as not to all be offtogether so that it doesn’t stop the department from functioning!

All in all though it’s good

My last job was working in the cemetery the job was easy enough and the crew I worked with were a friendly bunch. Even tho I would never see myself doing it full time it made me start to love work again.

I love my job most of the time, but sometimes it’s very challenging and if I’m not careful overly stressful. However those challenging periods generally lead to more very fulfilling and rewarding work. I am very fortunate to be paid to do something I truly love.

I'm an engineer for a large FTSE organisation but the great thing is I have my work sent to my device for the day and I can crack on as I please. The pay is good too. I can imagine if I had sit in an office all day I'd be saying different but it's down to the individuals preference of what they like to do.

Hated my jobs for 12 years, now I'm not far off finishing the 4 year training of a job I actually enjoy, I just wish I changed paths a lot sooner! I know good/fun jobs aren't so easy to come by but my advice for anyone is to find something you enjoy and find a way to make money out of it. It's certainly changed my outlook on life.

Snap. I almost walked out this afternoon. No training given, thrown in at the deep end and had to contend with a months backlog of work from the previous bloke. Plus correcting all the historical mistakes. Then they have decided to make changes to all the "systems", that I still haven't got to grips with. I also found out just how many people have sat in my seat over the last few years. Definitely a poisoned chalice.

Life is too short to not enjoy work. I love my job, however it's maternity cover, and a role I'm too qualified for,I've just been offered a management role, in a chain, good money and benefits it's a permanent contract. However, I gave my current boss the heads up, she's gutted, said she had been fighting for a permanent contract behind the scenes, and had secured me a 21 hr + bank, And said the next senior role to come available was mine, I could be waiting years.

Just stuck in such a rut,my partner and I rowed over it,he doesn't want me to leave where I am, neither do I particularly, but practicalities are the money, I'm just about breaking even, and at least there will be breathing space with the new job, cannot see I have a choice tbf

My full time job I love but management make it much harder than it needs to be but as I've only been doing it 20 years I'm still not sure if I'll stick it out or not. I love my job and been doing it for 21 years. It’s more of a lifestyle really just like this swinging malarkey. I get to go away every week and being paid to sit on a beach for a few days is not the worst way to work.

I love my job. It's what I wanted to do since I was a kid. It's not the best paid job and sometimes it can get you down, but 99% of the time I can't wait to get to work.

Absolutely love my job ... Was put on the planet to do it and if I won the lottery as in millions I would still do it but not all the time, perhaps one or two weeks a month as would have so many other things that I love to do as well!!

Well after an interesting mid year conversation that I was told I am not intergrating myself with the team and not attending vollentary meetings that I can’t expect to have a decent rating this year

Well that went well!!!!

Well if I am working my arse off and working at home do you really think i have the time to turn up to meetings which are optional Also working when on holiday

Anyway I made it very clear I was looking for another role!!!! As I had been either at my company or supporting my company for the last 11 years and i want to something else

Also I wa asugegsted that going to football after work help my career. Well fook you!!!

I forgot to add that whilst my last post did have some anger behind it (you would never have guessed)

Let me give some colour behind my current role...I was moved by tupe 18 months ago, lost redundancy package and pension as they weren’t official parts of my job, lost potential move to a higher band of role

Had to work for the same client as I had worked for, for the previous 9.5 years, to an organisation that wanted us to cut out work for the client to 50% but there was no support by the client or organisation to get to that level. Have to fill a time sheet daily, can’t bank time. The level of deliverables has increased as well.

So clearly I don’t really want to be here. I am looking elsewhere and have sent my CV out. Also having a people manager who is about as much help as a chocolate teapot doesn’t help.

I'd like to retrain but like you, I feel I'm too old and I KNOW I'm too poor!

I know I would be dreadfully unhappy in a job where I wasn't physically active, but have no fucking idea what it is I want to do.

All I know is the pay and hours are the bits that give me the most grief.

I do like my job,want to do something different but as many said too old

but depends how you are feeling and if you up for a new challenge.

Most of my days are stressful and some of the customers are a real pain as it's difficult to don't upset some one over his pride and joy,but at the end of the day safety first as if something happens you'll be liable.

I'm open for a new business venture but at the moment with all the leases going upas of greedy landlords and no one's know what can happen, I think is for good everyone to stay at the place of work and wait for the right moment.

Same feeling as mine.

I design new drainage systems for buildings, houses, hospitals, schools etc and part of my job is to ensure I protect the property from flooding so I suppose I'm helping make a difference in people's lives (even if they don't notice) but I'd happily give it up to do something less demanding if I didn't need the money.

Love my current job. Sometimes out in some crazy hours, but I don't mind. After my last job, which I loathed. One thing I don't miss is the power struggle. We have 2 employees and the boss. Which suits me fine. Too old for all that drama now.
