"I was a semi-professional endurance runner until February this year until my knees decided they'd had enough. Training comes down to routine, as long as you try and set aside enough time in the week to train then it's enough. You need to decide what you want to get from it, for a full marathon you need to be able to run about 15 miles at the same pace before you need to back off (I'm not talking record breaking pace- just a steady regular pace). Train is a lifestyle choice, you will need to change your lifestyle in some way, so maybe first thing in the morning, in your lunch hour, after work or before your evening meal. Training one day a week won't do that much for you. You would need to run at least 3 days out of the 7 a week to gain any form of benefit. Most people start off with the run 3 mins walk 2 mins and increase to run 4 walk 2mins and add a minute a day from there. I've always favoured the technique of running as far as you can one day then trying to push that little bit further the next and walking home. You can set targets for each day and you are never pushing yourself any more than you need to. Remember take at least one day off a week. No doubt others will suggest what worked them, read them and just do what suits you best what worked for me may not work for you. One more top tip- pick a good playlist for your iPod I bet so many on here could suggest several good tracks to run to- I liked beasties boys or Apex twin or metal Good luck, I bet you'll look great in your running gear" I do regularly run - I do club sessions twice a week and parkrun on a Saturday. However, when I used to train before, my long run was on a Sunday morning. And I don't look good in my running gear

"I'd say go for a run, just let them know before hand and let them sleep. If they're still there when you get back, then maybe another session before giving them the boot. I was having a conversation over the weekend about the difficulty in combining FAB with overnight meets. I used to regularly run half marathons and the like and I'm considering training for a marathon next year. However, the best day to train is a Sunday and recently I've had a number of weekend overnight meets (or at least late nights) which coupled with going to visit my parents alternate Sundays has impacted on my Sunday runs (ie they are now non-existent). Sporty types (any discipline) How do you deal with this? For non-sporty types, how would you feel if an overnight visitor got up at 6am to go for a run?" I suppose my worry would be (as I'd either be at theirs or in a hotel) that they would take offense that I'd rather go running than have sex with them.

"It would be an excuse for me to get up and go for a training bike ride as well.... Then back for a shower together.... " Love the profile!

"I'd kick you out early to make sure you ran! There would be a hot shower, fluffy towel and warm bed waiting for you when you got back though " If this is the male half, you're coming with me! If this is the female half

"When I first started running I was meeting, clubbing and regularly staying out all night and tended to train primarily during the week. Which goes against most training plans but was surprisingly effective. Now my life is less chaotic I schedule a recovery week the weekends I'm doing something less suited to early mornings and running and up the training during the week a little to offset a weekend off" I would do a long run on a Wednesday evening, but I really don't like the idea of going out for a two or three hour run at 6pm. There is no way I could wake up early enough for a morning long run

"I run everyday before work but also have a treadmill if there staying in your house then you could always invest in one that way your not leaving the house and any spare time you get to train you can just hit the treadmill don't even have to get ready just slip some trainers on and away you go but if you do get one make sure it has hill climb and good luck " I live in a shared house, so no treadmill available. My room is on the first floor and wouldn't want my housemates to think I've got a herd of elephants in my room
