I earn a reasonable wage, but could do with a little extra, I know couldn't we all ha ha. I am trained to do PAT testing but that is not my current job, keep thinking I could earn a bit extra doing it part time, but no idea how that would work with my doing it legally and paying my taxes. anyone know of a way to increase your income on a part time basis ?

buy and sell on ebay, lots do this. find it cheap or on sale in the shops, resell on ebay.

Tough going but selling your used undies can be a a real money spinner.

Buy in bulk from the market, and if you can accept the high levels of man-made fibre you’ll probably be looking at about £1 a unit.

That’ll mushroom (possibly literally) to £20 a unit when you come to sell them on. For extra dosh you can post them second class and claim the cost of first class. Then when they turn up late blame it on privatisation.

If you ignore the low hourly rate (roughly 25p an hour) it works well. Do this for a few years, and that private island may not feel like such a long way off.

Sometimes a second job isn't financially all that beneficial as it will increase the deductions quicker and therefore lower the hourly rate for the work.

It could even push you in to higher tax bracket

In the past, I've volunteered for medical trials. If you can time your leave to coincide with the dates of the study eg. students and job seekers, it's a great way to earn extra £££.

"Online surveys "

I'vew done a few of them..I was using a good one that just works in the backround of your mobile...in a month you effectively can earn £20 in amazon...save it up and you have a good load in ur amazon account.

fair enough..you are giving away your online habits and therefore you might have an increase in junk mails..texts etc..I can handle that...I had £44 earned by just having the app, I cashed it in each mnonth into my amazon account and then just restart the process.

Pat testing is a good idea. I know someone who does it in the Wrexham area to make extra cash. Charges around 50p per item. A small office with up to 10 employees could easily have 80 items to test so it's surprising how the number of items soon adds up to a tidy amount per hour. You'll need insurance, the testing equipment, consumables - ie stickers and certificates, website, phone etc. You can use QuickBooks or Xero to do your accounts to keep everything above board and certain expenses can be allocated to your business to reduce tax payable. You could even employ a friendly Virtual Assistant to help you get set up (Can you tell that's what my business is!)

II know it adds up, I am a school caretaker and we used to get someone in to do all are stuff, but then when the school found out how cheap it was to do the training they sent me on the course to learn how to do it, it is only a one day course, a chimpanzee could do it lol. and we bought the tester and stickers for under £300 it costs about £90 every 12 months to have the tester calibrated.
