"I’ve just stared making massive changes to my diet to get my weight, mood and psoriasis under control. I’m reducing carbs (any still in are whole meal pasta, brown rice etc) reducing dairy and cutting as much sugar out as possible. Anyone else done this and got any advice or tips. Also any recipes would be great as I’m struggling for ideas.xx " I try to low carb though I do eat dairy. Look at the diet doctor website for loads of low carb recipes, I still use some of the Atkins ones too.

A fist amount of fruits(ideally 30 mins before your official meal) A fist amount of veggies A fist amount of protein(meat) Lastly if you’re still hungry, a fist amount of carbs. If you eat in sequence listed above, you shall feel a difference within a week

"I'm on the paleo or keto diet which is basically no carbs or heavily reduced and definitely no sugar but full fat diary is in. If memory serves Diet Doctor web site, think that's being posted already, or just Google paleo/keto diet if you get the web site I used it's got hundreds of fantastic recipes. Only one proviso though, the diet is about only eating when you are hungry and only to fulfilment, the diet I found after a week or so makes you almost fill full all the time so it can feel strange not eating at a "normal meal time". Hope this helps as I lost 5 stone. " I did paleo for 2 years and then when I moved to London I slipped back into bad habits from being newly single and dating again. I need to get back into the routine and start again. It’s hard work but I liked the good I ate. I lost weight easily and felt much better.

"Very difficult to lose weight with dieting Try to incorporate more exercise into your day instead " That's all well and good but if you eat 3 bars of chocolate a day you'll need a shit load of exercise to burn those bad boy calories.

"Exercise isn’t the issue, I have a very physical job and am already quite active outside of work. My problem isn’t that I need to lose a lot of weight or diet, my weight is always up and down though because I go through phases of eating to much sugary rubbish so am trying to get myself in the habit of eating a healthier diet. Thanks for all the advice.xx" My works doctor told me that exercise isn't the issue with dieting it's diet, diet, diet. He maintained that exercise is counter productive for most people because you go to the gym for a couple of hours then think that means they can have a take-a-way, bag of chips or pints of lager. Once during physiotherapy after half an hour of heavy exercise cycling I asked if that meant I could have a mars bar, the therapist checked the readouts and said it meant I could have an apple!

"I follow slimming world, i eat everything and have lost a few Stone. Im allowed choc, crisps and loads of junk food but its a small amount daily whilst piling up on meat veg salads rice pasta to name a few. The body needs fats sugars carbs proteins. " I am sorry that is incorrect, the body does not need to EAT sugars or high carb foods at all. The NHS is potentially facing being bankrupted by the number of people developing Type II Diabetes which can in most cases be prevented, reversed or controlled ENTIRELY by cutting sugars and ready carbs from the diet. You may lose weight on your current diet, but you could become more and more insulin resistant and end up with diabetes. People who are already insulin resistant MUST reduce carbs or risk life threatening complications.

"Over what sort of time scale does your weight fluctuate? If it's relatively short then it's unlikely that it's your diet causing it. Mike xx" Usually over a couple of months. I’ll have a few months of eating ok(ish) and my weight will drop a little or stay the same then I’ll have a few months of craving sweet things and carbs and my weight will start creeping up again.xx

Exactly- you can't out train a bad diet. Exercise is good for many reasons, but if you want to lose weight, diet is the key.

" Also, you adapt to exercise, so the calorie burn tends to decrease over time, unless you up the intensity of the exercise (Or in weight lifting, utilise progressive overload). Eating less than you burn is the key.
