Do you not think the man sized tissues thing was a publicity stunt? Maybe I’m just a cynic.

I’m not sure but it’s really getting out of hand with what they are trying to change,a lot of it is traditional for example the snowman it’s been a story for every Xmas for the last how many years and they are coming up with snow person wtf is that all about? Oh then they tried to ban the word Christmas and tried to call it festive something! That didn’t work but it just seems they* the government are trying to change our country’s traditional values.

Something to do with breaching the political end goal or something .... crazy .

I watched the advert on book face and I really like it. I use lush products so I try and avoid anything that's tested on animals or contains palm oil. I also try to use products with less plastic. I don't see how awareness is polical?

"Why is it banned? "

because technically the ad is actually a greenpeace ad....

iceland said because it told a great story and they are phasing out palm oil from their products that it fit their narrative

so all the greenpeace logos and stuff was taken out and it was repackaged...

I think because of the outrage the decision may end up being reversed..... I think the ad is beautiful and have put it up on my facebook and twitter feed....

I’ve never heard of either snowmen being called snowpeople or the government trying to ban the word ‘Christmas’...

I don’t understand why that was banned but we are subected to constant adverts from charities for water, broken donkeys etc

"I don’t understand why that was banned but we are subected to constant adverts from charities for water, broken donkeys etc

because "charities" are not covered by the same rules....

If the ad had been designed by iceland from the start i don't think there would have been a problem, but because it was originally produced by greenpeace... that is the problem...

i don't agree with the decision before anyone asks.. but i can see why it was made...

Yeah it breaks the rules. Iceland should donate to a charity that deals with deforestation and let them run the advert like every other business does to push their political agenda.

same here , I think it's a more important message than most companies who sell people a sanitised version of Christmas they can never aspire too

Or maybe you're on the same wavelength as the ad agency. Think of that brief: "lets do a tissue ad that will get up everybody's nose." That's how the best ads work. You should read a book called "Get smashed" by Sam Delaney; funny, sarcastic and a bloody good read.

Make it go viral.

The orangutan can stay at my place any time.

As for being too political; lets ban party political broadcasts as they are stuffed full of politics, lies damn lies and statistics.

The AIDS adverts were more shocking, but didn't get banned.

Don't even get me started on the how-to-survive-a-nuclear-holocaust ads, not political in the slightest.

TV adverts, my Mastermind subject.

I think that was the point. It has to declare itself to be a political ad or an ad flogging shit.

I’m

Loving the fact its banned...

WHY...

Because everyone is talking about it, the video has been around for six months or so greenpeace commissioned it, I’ve shared it in Facebook etc, fell in deaf ears...

Today however, so many of my friends are talking about it on social media

It has grabbed everyone’s attention and hopefully raising awareness on the palm oil topic

I agree regarding the sharing, it wasnt getting much notice via Greenpeace.

Theres some interesting info on a blog by a guy who tweets under the name Mr Ethical, worth reading.

Agreed... fell on deaf ears originally. Now everybody is asking questions..

Can only be good thing.

Banning anything generates huge amount of publicity for whatever is being banned.

Is Iceland really complaining?

i mean, had this not been banned, I would have had no idea that the Ministry of Defence has been urging the UK Government to oppose a EU ban on palm oil from Malaysia in case it jeopardises the sale Typhoon fighter jets by BAe Systems to the Malaysian military.

The advertising agency and Iceland knew exactly what they were doing with this. They’ve played social media to a “t” with loads of free publicity.

It’s important that awareness of the key topic has been raised and remember the environment is for life.

In todays news, Iceland join up with Unilever to launch Marmite sprouts (proof that 2 wrongs do not make a right)

Wonder where the palm oil in Marmite comes from
