I remember what it was like starting out... And it's tougher for guys. I host small group socials for exactly that reason, and fortunately have some like-minded friends who also come along to put newbies at ease and show them that we're all just normal folk really

Awful isn't it?? Even after my first couple of meets I was still treated with suspicion and regularly accused of being a fake or asked if I was a journalist because I was so chatty and always asking questions

Wasn't until I attended my first Social event that I was really accepted.
