Stourbridge

I travel a lot in Europe and a little in the USA. Just flew into Amsterdam with two Americans sitting two rows behind me. They didn’t stop talking for the entire time on board, ok fair enough, but at a volume you could hear probably the entire length of the aircraft.

Then they insisted on using the European only biometric passport Lane even though they don’t have that system.

Anyone else have travel niggles?

Had that a couple of times- had one large family that were dotted around various seats (they arrived late to check in then complained the whole flight that they weren't seated together) but they just stood up in their seats the whole flight and bellowed to each other across the plane- and then I also had the pleasure of an hour coach transfer with them...luckily they were at a different hotel.

Also had a 15hr flight with someone who brought a newborn with them- they then proceeded to poke it or pick it up everytime it stopped screaming and another flight with a kid allowed to run round the whole plane while the parents were busy drinking.

On a flight a few years ago, I had a kid in front of me standing on his seat facing me, and screeching. His mother did nothing when I asked her to sit him down, so I had a "sneezing" fit into his face - his mother soon sat him down

I recently flew to Italy and there were two women either Polish or Russian who didn't stop loudly yabbering on for the entire 3 hour flight, there was no pause in it! Bearing in mind the flight was at 4am so some quiet time would have been appreciated!

Also have the people who walk 3 abreast on the walkways. Usually huge fat things with huge fat kids.

Had a couple on a flight back from Hong Kong in the days before seat back screens, on a jumbo you had a comunal screen on a bulkhead . They had just collected a baby from an agency. They were seated in the middle of the screen right at the front. Not only did the poor thing scream the entire 13 hours but they stood up in front of the screen for most of it too.

my holiday niggle is people... just people.. people talking, people swimming in the pool. people eating their lunch, people drinking, people in clothes that they absolutely shouldn't wear...

Anyone who arrives at the check in desk without passports and tickets at the ready.

People who have no idea what constitutes a metal item when going through security; "sorry I forget about my belt" then seconds later "sorry I forgot about my coins"

People who try to place bags in the overhead compartment to find there's no room to then continually open and close the same compartment to see if the bags that are there have been magicked away.

People showing up in places having made no effort to tackle the local language. Added niggle points if they're moaning about everything on the menu being 'funny'.

I've found that paying extra for the better hotels can help a lot- even better if its a child free hotel- going out of season and to less touristy places also helps. then you just have to put up with the muppets when travelling -unfortunately, i'm not flush enough to turn left in the plane- so in with the riff raff

My new year resolution a few years ago was ‘to be a better man at airports ‘. It worked, very little upsets me now. I rise above.

I did post a few months back about my horrific flight back from Poland caused by a group of about fifty Orthodox Jews.

The Rabbi didn’t want the teenage members sitting next to a woman as she may be on her period and therefore ‘unclean’. The crew played musical chairs to move people around which delayed take off. All quite funny at that point. However, when the seatbelt light went off chaos erupted. These boys wouldn’t sit down, they were walking around the cabin and gathering in groups to eat and talk. They struggled to get the drinks cart up the aisle and kept bashing me as I was trying to read in my aisle seat. I got up and started telling them to sit down. I made my way to the loo and noticed a young girl of about 12 in tears. “They are scaring me” she said. Right, I lost it , I had a go at the Rabbi, I then walked the plane instructing these boys / men to sit down. The crew were useless. If it had been a bunch of lads on a stag there would have been some action.

People who don’t know that liquids have to fit in a specific size bag.

People who stop in the middle of the walkway without any attempt to move to the side.

People who share their life story over the phone on a train.

As I use the train quite a lot the thing that bugs me is people who think the whole carriage wants to hear what they are watching/listening to on their phone or tablet FFS get some headphones/earphones?
