It’s not how I imagined it.

What’s the biggest difference you can tell from when you imagined living in your own home, to how you are now you have your own place?

When I thought about leaving home I always imagined late night parties, with friends around every night. Rock and roll you know!

Nope, that’s not how it is, or ever has been. Immediately my own space is my own space.

What’s your stark reality to how different things turned out?

I never imagined when I was beggiing, stealing and borrowing bit of furniture and curtains, that the house would now be so full of crap.

I really need to get a skip and be ruthless

You live a sad life, must be doing something wrong -mines been a non stop rock and roll party full of cliches and fuck all sleep -no wonder I am so cranky on here

Much the same as you OP

The reality being leaky taps that need fixing, central heating that's not quite as effective as it should be, decorating that you never quite get round to etc

Hmm yes, I imagined a home that was always tidy, and with friends visiting often. But then I have kids who turn the house upside down x

My first place after uni I shared with a friend and it was as expected. We had people around most nights, a fair few parties and it was great time.

I'm a few houses down the line and about to move to my first ever bought house and it suddenly seems very grown up and I don't know where to start with looking after it!

I moved out of my parents house as soon as I could. I was working from aged 15 (soon as you had your NI card, you could start working back then) and moved out at 17 yrs old. Rented my own place since then.

I love it! You can't put a price on independence and privacy. I can do whatever I want, whenever I want.

May not have constant house parties but least I have that option to do so if I so wish.

I imagined a house with the door always open to friends, relaxed impromptu meals and chats over a bottle of wine.

The reality is that we have guard dogs patrolling the perimeter and a lock on the fridge

It’s the DIY that gets me ..... but then I found some one off Fab that does them now .... that’s leaky gutters and broken toilets etc

I bought my current house 11 years ago with my ex... I bought him out and now own it myself.

When I first lived alone in it, I had friends coming round, parties it was great. Now I get home, take off my bra (its the first thing a woman usually does) and snuggle up for the night ready for the next day.... its boring lol

I’ve never lived on my own either, but currently looking for a house to buy after renting for 8 years and compromise is the name of the game...

I know how much stuff you can acquire after two years and it’s staggering
