i had a major health scare in the last few days.... and i have been diagnosed with having bells palsy

if you have had it.... how long did your bout last? its annoying only having half a working face!!!

I haven’t had it myself but my aunt had and it took her about 4 months to recover fully, luckily she had no lasting effects from it, a chap I work with has relapses in times of stress and his eye still doesn’t function correctly bless him.

I hope you recover soon

Had a colleague that suffered with it some years ago and afraid the effects lasted some months. Hope thats not what happens with you. Wishing you a speedy recovery. He did recover fully btw

Had it twice Fabio.left and right side was given Steroids to help recovered mostly just one eye waters when i get tired

My father had it last year. After about a week his face came back. He was lucky.

Both of my parents have had it and in both cases it was 2 or 3 weeks and neither have had any after effects that I'm aware of.

I had it last year. It lasted about 3 weeks, I was given steroids and also anti-virals as a precaution as my grandmother had died on the respiratory ward the week before where I visited.

I kept trying to say things like Bubble bath, bumble bee ect and trying to blink.

Make sure you wear an eye patch for bed as it can get sore with dust.

Hope you feel better soon, my eye sometimes waters now when I eat.

I had bells palsy about 8 years ago. I thought I had a stroke. My face drooped, I couldn't blink, I couldn't eat or drink properly it was a nightmare. It lasted almost 6 months and i still suffer with problems because of it.

Hi Fabio

I had this just before xmas last year.

It was horrible and scary,lasted about 3 to 4 weeks,no lasting damage apart from some twitches.

My doc put me on steroids for 10 days ,which is recommended.

It will hopefully clear up in a few weeks,good luck and tc.

I had my first bout of it at age 13. Terrified me. Got about 80% recovery. Had a few more bouts over the years, mainly when I'm really run down or stressed x

My mum had it. We though she’d had a stroke. It lasted about 4 months. Keep your face muscles moving as much as you can. It really helped her.

been to the doctors this morning so feel a lot happier for what his said... but yes it is a scary thing because when you hear about the face drooping you immediately think "stroke".. so you are just relieved that it isn't...

so just said slow down and relax... and basically just get better,

Had it when I was a child. If I have to much to drink on a night out it returns, not as bad and lasts a cple of hours. Hope your feeling better soon

Exactly two weeks ago today I came down with bells palsy also. I thought it was an eye infection at first but a trip to the eye infirmary gave the correct diagnosis.

Mine was caught early and although I'm not 100% by a long way I'm getting better.

I had it 6 month s ago. Luckily I managed to start the steroid treatment as soon as I knew I had it. It got worse over the following week. I actually massaged mine with a TENS machine and I got rid of it within 4 weeks. Fully recovered now. Think it was bought on by stress.

I had it a year ago, scared the crap out of me, thought I was having a stroke, and what a pain had to wear an eye patch to sleep, and eat like id been to the dentist, cleared up in about 6 weeks, am back to normal now, or what passes for normal with me.

first of all i want to say thank you to all the people who have reached out to me both in this thread and in my pm's...it means the world to me

the fact that i went thru shock to fear i had had some sort of stroke to relief that it wasn't to then dealing with what i do have and coping with little things like wanting to have a full munch on something and them remembering you only have half a working face... and drinking without dribbling and speech, oh bloody words!

and you want to just get better but it is just slow going....
