Chelmsford

A butcher in Exeter stated on Facebook that customers could name their turkey and feed it for two months before slaughter.. he has had his store sprayed by activists including the spraying of his pheasants hung outside. The butcher has had death threats.

Is this right ?

Well I’d say it was criminal damage / vandalism so in terms of the law, probably not.

His Turkey is probably better cared for and live a far better life before slaughter than supermarket turkeys these twats will be buying

My dad owned a game shop in Cheshire. One time he had a lot of rabbits in so he put up a Watership Down poster in his window above the rabbits with a sign saying "you've read the book, you've seen the film, now eat the cast" he had his windows put through and we got verbally abused in the street.

As a young boy it did alter my perception of the human race

Bit of a stupid thing to do to be fair. But death threats is a bit much! Some people just have no brains. Should have expected it really, rightly or wrongly.

It's like everything in life some agree with what you do and some dont, some love all creatures great and small and to them a butcher is a slaughterer and not highly regarded and the thought that he had such disdain for the turkeys that he's cultivating for a one day festival of gluttony that he even offered the buyers a chance to name the said beast was too much and so you say they sprayed and threatened an over reaction maybe but some might say it's written in the Bible ' a life for a life '.

I myself love a turkey especially corn fed I'd name mine adenine.

People have a very strange attitude to animals and meat.

Millions of turkeys will be being raised in shit conditions right now ready for Christmas but that's out of sight so that's ok.

At least these sound like they'd have a relatively decent life. And the people feeding and buying them might actually make the connection between the live animal and the meat on their plates.

Might even inspire a couple of them to turn veggie...

If the butcher means you can feed it, chase it around the field, get chased by it around the field then no. You shouldn't play with your food.

Excuse my sense of humour.

No it's not right. I think he came up with a novel idea. We ate a hand reared turkey a few years ago. It was feed fruit and veg peel for the last few months. It was the tastiest turkey I have ever had and it had a great 6 months or how ever old it was.

Out in a field all day, safely locked up at night. As much fresh organic food as it could eat.
