"A wee bit of a rant here. My daughter is going through a tough time just now with regards her mental health. She is feeling suicidal and has attempted suicide 3 times now in the last few months. During this time I have now came to realise that young people are not getting anywhere near the support that they need or deserve. I'm not sure if this is a problem only assosiated with the Lanakshire area or if this is a nationwide issue. Something needs to be done urgently though. " You’re correct. I was getting nowhere with the NHS with my child’s issues. A little different to yours though. It was hell for 6 years. Fighting and fighting for everything and getting nowhere. 6 months ago I decided to go and see a private consultant in London as I honestly didn’t know where else to turn. Yeah it was expensive, although not as expensive as I thought it would be to be fair, but I honestly wish I’d done it years ago. I can’t even describe how different life is now with the proper help and medication. If you can I would definitely recommend it.

"its nationwide. The money that gets allocated is never seen on the front line. CAMHS have no structured process for referrals therefore every single child referred is taken on board. There is no differing between behavioral issues and mental health issues, All are treated within the same team yet there are no MH nurses to then work with them. They often have upwards of 120 service users allocated to 1 mh nurse. meaning that the interventions needed dont get done because they dont have the time. Yes its wrong Yes its a disgrace but untill someone is brave enough to say the entire infrastructure of CAMHS needs to be reworked, I cant see it changing any time soon. " CAMHS don't take every kid on board, if they're not worse case scenarios or in need of medication that only they can prescribe they close your case telling you that if your child needs help again in the future then they will need a new referral. You then get put back to local MAT teams who can only do short term interventions of 6-12 weeks if you are lucky due to funding cuts. We've been going backwards and firwards with them for 9 years but now my son is prescribed methylfenyldate they have to keep us on for regular check ups. Our county council cut funding to children services and social care by £3million last year and need to make more cuts this next year. At the moment, only 1 in 4 young people who require mental health services are able to access help from the NHS.

"Thanks for your input. I think if you have a look around this forum I'm not the only one talking about serious issues that are affecting people everyday. I was wondering if this was a local issue or a more widespread national one. Yes it's a swingers site but I'm assuming there will be people on here that's been affected by the same as what I'm going through just now. " Mine was referred to camhs nearly 3 years ago for self harm Thankfully she seems to be out the other side with extra support from me and some very frank chats but yea 3 years still not heard a word from them

"Exhausted with the mental health issue my son has been suffering for 7 years now and all hope of him getting help and being financially independent is something I can only dream about but I am lucky because he is here and my rock!??" I’ve found the only way I can deal with it all is to never look further than the next week or so. I drove myself insane worrying about the future and I mean I got really bad. Nobody knows what the future holds so you just can’t even go there with it all x
