I prefer to go on givewell when I have some spare cash and donate to recommended charities. Usually they have some obscure ones that don't spend your money on marketing, but use it very well.

No. Nothing monthly. I'm not made of money. I give when people are taking part in an event... and sponsored things that the kids always seem to be doing...I spend a fair amount in charity shops too. I think that's enough tbh.

Don't donate nationally but I do take surplus food into the food bank, I tend to buy two of stuff, inc sanitary pads and toothpaste, which go as well.

I also donate to a local dog rescue, again I buy tins of dog food and dog toys to donate.

When my boys were small this time of year we would have a clear out of toys, and they would come with me when I took them to the womens refuge, or childrens ward. It was good for them to see that not everyone was as fortunate as they are, easy to donate to a charity, but just as valuable to see the donation on the ground running.

Nope! Why would I want to pay someone’s wages when they don’t actually do anything for it!

I.E. the head of child line gets about £170k per year... then there’s the head of cancer research that pockets about 80% of donations...

If you wanna give to a charity, give ITEMS not money that doesn’t even make it to the correct cause

I agree there are excesses, but the bigger a charity gets, the more professionals it needs to run it properly. Very rarely do accountants come in volunteer format!

one thing i do when looking at making a contribution to a charity is see how much the ceo is on.

if its what i feel an extra ordinary amount i do not give. thats a business not a charity.

I do exactly the same

I never give anything to any of the "Usual Suspects" It just makes the fat cats even fatter. Talking of cats, i do give to the local cats protection league. But i give most to the West Midlands Air Ambulance, both in personal time and actual cash. As a biker, i'm fully aware i may well need it's services in some point in my life

No. We prefer to support small, local charities who get no additional funding except what they can raise. Support for them is not just monetary but volunteering and donations of things other than money are what keeps them going.

There are 2 local cat rescues who are very small. Recently I was able to get about £50 worth of cat food in Tesco reduced to about a fiver because it was damaged boxes. I donated it to the smaller of the 2 rescues and it was used not only for the cats in their care but also for the feral colonies that they TNR and care for.

Is there such a thing as an umbrella organisation you can give money to which shares it out between a portfolio of competent and reliable charities and maybe interjects new ones when there are particular problems or appeals?

Givewell makes it easy to donate to multiple charities in the same transaction and spread the donations out. If you go on now, they have 8 'standout charities which are very cost effective and evidence backed benefits. You can donate to all 8 in one transaction.

I work part time for a charity that supports ex servicemen & volunteer a lot of my spare time to fundraising events, and activities.

I also support 2 small local charities for children with additional/special needs

Both my youngest boys have dogs they adopted via the Dogs Trust, and one is a volunteer walker at the local shelter.

I give all my stuff to 2 charity shops that are local to me. One is for cancer and the other is for MIND,the mental health charity.

In all fairness though most of these charities aren't charities,they're businesses with the top cats paying themselves ridiculous amounts of money while only a small percentage actually goes to the cause.
