Thin line between banter and insulting someone to their face with the excuse that "it's banter".

I don't usually do banter with someone unless it's someone I know really well and trust a lot. I don't like dealing with misunderstandings stemming from different banter standards!

Absolutely! Some people are just downright nasty and then say ‘it’s just my sense of humour’ when they are called out on it. I only banter with people I know well so as not to inadvertently offend or upset someone.
