The alpha male hypothesis is bullcrap, it's based on wolf dominance systems from the 80's or something and a decade later the researcher published work basically saying g they got it all wrong.

Women are attracted to men, or partners who have power.

But power and status are subject to the individual.

Some women like muscular men and select that in favour over anything else.

Others like artistically creative people. Hence why a scrawny guitarist or singer might be objectively more attractive than Brad Pitt. That singer holds power in his niche.

This is why we have diverse complex societies.

Going by the dictionary's definition of an alpha male I married one.

My LTP seems the alpha type but I haven't seen him in a group situation (unfortunately).

This is true, however there are only really two ways in which chimps compete for alpha roles in their groups.

Fighting, or influence through grooming and caretaking activities. Grooming is measured in both males and females, however the other two traits are selection methods used almost exclusively by one gender or the other.

In homo sapiens we see so many different metrics by which people could be an 'alpha' that nobody can be an alpha. Simply put, alpha males should be able to get all the women they want to increase offspring output. However it's generally not the case in our species as one women may consider a certain guy ideal because of certain traits, however her friend might not even consider the guy as she selects for different traits.

That sounds very post modernist!

It isn't hard to create objective measures of what makes a male alpha. Like most things, it could be expressed as a 0-100 scale with only the top 20% considered alpha enough.

my own little sanctuary

My interpretation of your post OP is that alpha is a physical attribute and beta being an intellectual. I think women ' settle' with you interpretation of a beta male throughout adulthood mostly because it goes back to the saying (paraphrasing here) that a fool speaks just to say something whereas a wise man speaks when there's something to say. My reason for thinking this way is because women like to be thought about, most women don't like to be put at risk through the foolishness of their male counterpart but most importantly they want stability which you'll most likely find in wisdom.

This is going off your explanation and what I can deduce from that.however, in reality there doesn't need to be brains or Braun there can be both. I think the kind of people that end up together in the long run are the ones that grow together in the sense that they have a level of understanding that comes from maturing and time spent with one another. This whole alpha/beta thing is nonsense if you ask me. I know some people would by your definition call me an alpha or a beta it just depends on who you ask. I'd say the so called beta males that women supposedly end up with make them feel safer in a physical, financial and mental aspect as oppose to just one.

Friends, The Big bang Theory, just beta males the lot of them. Now and again they introduce Alpha males to show the insecurities of the beta, and to show the women getting weak at the knees when presented with a real man.

Do actually think I’d hadn’t heard of the terms alpha and beta male before today, I know I live in Devon but new spreads fast across the shires. With regards to your roses, they are adaptable and can grow in almost any soil, just make sure it is well drained, deep and full of humus. The best soils however are medium to heavy loam, over a good clay sub soil.

Given that swinging is only a hobby for less than 1% of the population, and the number of paired up women seeking what they can't get at home is a very small fraction of that 1%.
