I think each individual has their own unique sense of humour, sometimes its just shared when viewing/hearing familiar subjects we can associate with.

I think a lot of men may be drawn to men with a similar sense of humour which isn't necessarily the case with women

the humour is indeed contained within the familiarity

for example, a joke referring to 'a biscuit' leaves the subject open to interpretation

however, a joke about a milk chocolate chocolate hobnob provides us with a direct point of reference and familiarity

sadly i am no stranger to said items

No don't think men have a more developed sense of humour.

But do think that 'what is funny' definitely varies.

Both of us have totally different sense of humours which makes things interesting sometimes.

MrB has a very dry and often warped humour and loves his sacarsm.

I on the other hand have a more stupid humour and little simple things will tickle me.

In general, yes and yes, though there are exceptions.

I also think one is in trouble when one has tears rolling down their cheeks and their partner is more stone faced than the Great Wall of China.

I think maybe more encompassing to be honest, (that might be the same as developed ) I tend to find guys 'mostly' funnier than women, obviously there are exceptions but take male comedians... there are loads of different styles of male acts out there, from the physical, through situation, bizzare, outlandish, to plain old laddishness.

But with women (and yes there are exceptions) but mostly, I just don't find them funny, the material seems to centre around the same old things,

weight issues, periods, family, and how crap their boyfriends are.

I guess that shows, to me anyway that yes, male and female 'generally' have a different sense of what is funny, but I personnaly find guys funnier.

Agreed!

I think the two questions are linked actually. There is a certain type of humour that's better at being performed, and men seem to be better at that type of humour. And there might be a genetic link here. But that doesn't make it funnier, just different.

But it's also complicated by the fact that there does appear to be a difference in what is seen as being funny, which does sit along a gender line. It's not easy to define however, but in vey broad terms there appear to be a difference.
