I want your opinions and thoughts on two things,

1) do you think we should try to terraform mars and try to inhabit this planet?

2) do you think mars was once inhabited by a civilisation that may have destroyed itself?

On a recent visit to NASA going to Mars was the big thing. The problem is, for those volunteering for the flight, it is, unfortunately a one way trip, and that is without the voyagers actually setting foot on the planets surface.

I don't know whether we should or even could Colonise the fear old red planet.

As for past civilisations, we wouldn't know, but Mr. Harbours a science fantasy that we are descendants of Martians who colonised Earth after a Martian catastrophe, and human kinds obsession with that world is in fact a good old fashioned bit of genetic Martian homesickness.

I think he reads too much Sci - Fi and listens to far too much Hawkwind!

There is a weird scientific fact about this, humans are not designed to live in our atmosphere, we are the only species that suffer so much with back and spinal issues, there is evidence that suggested we are not suited to the cycle of time on earth but in fact the planet Mars seems to have the ideal orbit around the sun for humans!!

I’m not making this up

I read this in a scientific journal

May not have got all of it correct, but that what the inference was

It's a great topic and I imagine theirs a bounty to be had for the first nation to be on Mars I for one hope it's someone from up north a yorkie maybe but let's face it somebody has to explore the milky-way

Sorry, I'm not a conspiracy loon, it would be way too big to suppress, and the earth from the mars with decent telescopes would show signs of civilisation. Unfortunately Mars from earth doesn't.

There was a documentary on tv a few months back about what would happen to Earth if humans died out. The various experts concluded that absolutely no evidence of intelligent life would exist after about 5000 years, this included buildings, metal structures and even plastics.

There probably is life on Mars in the form of micro organisms but that it...

Experience tells us that hostile extreme environments restrain evolution so it is unlikely any life would have progressed much.

As for moving there, why??

It's really cold, the air is not breathable and the gravity is lower than that on earth.

There are plenty of inhospitable areas on earth devoid of humans, colonise those areas, it might take a few days to reach those by road rather than a few months by space travel.

That doesn't appear plausible, cave drawings still very visible, from high vantage points there are loads of buried towns and cities visible from over 4-5000 years and what about stonehenge, still very visible after 5000+ years and I'm sure it will be.

Also, assuming it was carbon based the samples would have shown much higher carbon residues and there would be fossilised vegetation near enough ground level, I. E. Coal, which presumably our various surveys would have found. I'd love to be proved wrong though.

Start a civilization there no. Doesn't support life as we know.

Life there before us if there was life there it wouldn't be as we know it.

Until we can travel faster in space it's not worth exploring space as we don't have the technology yet.
