It's interesting that you should say that, they have been since around the 14th December.

The mornings are however still getting darker until around the 28th.

The net effect is of course a shortest day of 21st December but it is not balanced between mornings and evenings.

This year the solstice actually took place on the 22nd as happens on rare occasions!

The dates quoted are for Bradford, they may vary geographically ( ie Sydney or Pretoria ) but the principle should still hold good for the UK.

It will get lighter by around 3-4 minutes per night now, if I remember my schooldays lessons, lol
