I'm in 2 minds as to whether to go and see it, Sacha Baron Cohen wanted to play Freddie warts n all, Roger Taylor and Brian May didn't want that which was why he ended up leaving/being kicked off the set, can't help thinking that this will now be much dumbed down version of the real story

If it's the film as originally written then I'll give it a miss. Read like a big ego trip for Brian May, at the expense of the story worth telling.

Obviously, but what I mean is Brian May and Roger Taylor didn't want any of Freddies' private life included yet the original concept was a film about Freddie

Really want to see this.

Saw a documentary on Freddie a few years back, and not one person interviewed had a bad word to say about him.

Also I really used to fancy him in his white vest . Bless.

Why should any of his private life be included ? The clue is in the word private and despite his flamboyant stage persona he gave very few interviews and was a very private man. The press constantly hounded him and wrote stories about him especially the scum sorry sun. Why would his friends wants his private life all over screen for the world to pick over something that would clearly have been against his wishes.

Because the original concept was a movie about Freddie and Sacha Baron Cohen wanted to play Freddie warts n all, personally I don't think a movie about someone who was as famous as Freddie can be in anyway authentic if you leave out his lifestyle which was well documented. Brian May and Roger Taylor wanted to remove the lifestyle part of Freddie from the film, at which point it just becomes another ego trip for Taylor and May in the same way as why they keep touring as Queen.

Surely leaving a part of something out doesn’t make it un authentic ? There are still parts of the film which allude to his private life but how far into his private life is it acceptable or needed to go into ? He was a great showman with a great voice is it not acceptable to see him as that without digging up ever detail about his private life ? Do we really need every detail about his sexual partners and drug taking across a big screen. Also being famous doesn’t mean you give up the right to privacy especially as he didn’t use his private life to gain fame and fortune he may have helped but not through his own design.

There will have been parts excluded from the film out of respect for Freddie’s memory. With him being a private person a “warts and all” biopic would have been disrespectful and in poor taste.

The best concert I have ever seen was Queen with Adam Lambert. He wasn't just a Freddie tribute act but injected his own personality. Amazing performance.

If anyone watched Behind the Candelabra about Liberace I’m sure a few were shocked at his behaviour.

I’m not sure what good a ‘warts and all’ movie actually achieves. Someone’s private life should remain that way. Perhaps Freddie Mercury was lucky to not live his life today where every second is caught on camera and the internet. He was able to have some privacy.

I totallly agree ,

Here is a quote from Sacha baron

““There are amazing stories about Freddie Mercury,” he said. “The guy was wild. There are stories of little people with plates of cocaine on their heads walking around a party.”

So basically probably the greatest musical showman of our generation is going to depicted by a clown who wants to talk about a party he once had with plates of cocaine and midgets no wonder they binned him off he was just after inflating his own image and getting a cheap laugh. Maybe he should stick to Ali G

I have actually seen the film and throught it was very good and not at all about inflating the ego of may and co. In fact it seemed to be done in good taste and overall was actually very sad in parts to see just how lost and Lonley Freddy was and how people just took advantage of him.

There’s a fine line between genius and madness and he opitomised this it’s just a tragic story of a genius who struggled with many things in life but had a gift. His loneliness and struggles with his demons intimately cost him his life.

I thought it was brilliant. It started off quite sanitised and I thought they were going to gloss over it but I think they got it just right.

Not fair to Freddie if they'd made it all about his lifestyle. I thought the Press conference scene was perfect and summed it all up.

I had goosebumps all through the film. Going to see it again next week.

If Brian and Roger had wanted to make it all about them they failed. It seemed the right mix to me.

Hope QAL are touring again next year.

Yea I think the press conference scene was very sad in the fact that he wanted to talk about the music and all the press wanted to do was dig in his private life. It’s a shame that even after his death some people seem more interested in a bit of sleaze than actually celebrating someone talent

The thing is this , it was a talent that disappeared way too soon . Just like so many others , and there’s no reason why people wouldn’t wonder why the guy died so early . At the end of the day , it wasn’t an accident , his private life caused his death . I actually think his lifestyle was a major part of what made him the showman he was , again very relevant to the story .

It could be a character analysis rather than a character assasination , but to ignore it and say just enjoy his talent is like saying forget George Best and Alex Higgins had a drinking problem , or forget Amy Winehouse kept bad company and had a drug habit .

Freddy was Freddy , and he said he had no regrets , so let people see the truth behind the man , particularly as there’s a generation who wouldn’t know about it now .

Saw it in a full cinema yesterday. I thought it was excellent. It wasn't sanitised. It touched upon the darker parts of his life and I think that was enough. Malik was out of this world.

As someone who was 20 yards from the stage at Live Aid I pretty much wept through the whole of the final 20 minutes.
