I like both but there's nobody making me pick up warm cat poo in a plastic bag. So I vote cat.

Never liked cats to be honest then six years ago we took in a kitten kinda rescue cat situation and the little guy has really grown on me. Cats are very clever crafty little sods lots of character easy to look after as independent not so demanding as a dog. How ever we want a dog next as they are more of a companion and way more loyal

I don't own my dog, it's more of a friend I live with.

I don't own my cat, it's more of a friend that allows me to live in the house i bought and paid for as long as i buy the good food, serve it on nice plates, fill the biscuits up without asking, provide numerous sleeping and snoozing spots and administer fuss in exactly the right way for exactly the right amount of time

I have both dog and cat. Dog will sit/lie nicely and not mooch when there is food on the go. Cat will literally steal food from your hand given the chance. He once stole a 4 pack of millionaire shortbread out my kitchen, shredded the cellophane and licked a hole right through the the chocolate on every bit just to spite me.

So I vote dog.

Give a dog a roof over its head, food, drink love and treats and it will think you are god.

I love dogs, but lost my old girl just before Christmas, was absolutely gutted. I even had to take time off work. She was a 13 year old Staffie cross Boxer. The most loyal and gentle companion and family dog one could ever wish for. I miss her badly!

my own little sanctuary

I have a cat and he's always been family, independent and keeps dogs away from the house. Also friends with a fox which is pretty awesome. I have to say though, someone on my street has a brown and cream Akita and I would be a home wrecker and steal that dog if I thought I'd get away with it. Cutest little brute you've ever seen.

Ive had both .... but now ive just one cat ... Neville

My daughter hand reared him from one day old ... his mum was a stray . She had given birth to him ... but the rest of the litter died inside her as she was very undernourished and weak ...

They were found by some rubbish bins., and taken to the vets .

My daughter bought him home and fed him kitten milk every 2 hours , he is still here 4 years later ....

Mum found a home too..

Neville .... or naughty Neville comes in for food a bit of fuss , then goes back out .... hes a bit of a free spirit .... but hes a happy chappy ...

I can’t choose between them. We’re slaves to 4 cats but both love dogs too and will probably own both when our work commitments mean we have enough time to care for a dog.

So, with that in mind my answer is snakes

I've a cat and dog.

CAT, sleeps all day, only wants me for food and is a destroyer of wildlife. Thinks she's got the right to sleep anywhere in the house.

DOG, just wants Walks and cwtches and to lick a person to death lol

So definitely Dogs

So sorry to hear of your loss. Ours are aging rapidly and our oldest (aged14) has not been in the best heath this year, a spinal injury followed by steroids inducing diabetes has not been kind to her. There have been times I thought we might lose her and it breaks my heart just thinking that one day it will happen. She’s my baby.

I’m a firm believer in cats choosing their owners. When the universe thinks the time is right it will send the right cat along to choose you as it’s new human.

Grew up with cats, love cats but snooty buggers, only come to you when they want something and would kill you if they had opposable thumbs.

Now I've a pooch who is my best pal

There and to the left a bit

If I absolutely had to choose one then it's be dogs - but have had both at various points in my life and currently live with three cats that are a constant source of both amusement and bemusement - would love to get a dog but don't have the time to devote to one currently
