I can’t believe I’ve had nothing but time wasters and tyre kickers.

Had it up for 3 weeks with clear sharp photos.

My old car is only 5 years old and thoroughly maintained with full service history.

I think in this day and age time wasters seem to be a problem no matter what you are doing.

Yeap only had silly offers that are about 60 percent lower than what it’s worth.

Yeap I’ve priced it in the right age range and mileage range

3 weeks isn’t a long time in the car selling world; I do it for a living

It’s generally quiet at the moment but yours is something that should sell easy enough if priced right

3 weeks isn’t a long time in the car selling world; I do it for a living

It’s generally quiet at the moment but yours is something that should sell easy enough if priced right

I’ve priced it competitively so I suppose it’s a waiting game.

I’ve always looked after my cars and polish and wax them too.

I customize motorbikes and sell them on eBay.

I make sure it has loads of closeup pics and details about the bike.

No test rides or tyre kickers I always put and any viewing is at least 10 miles from shop.

So far I've been lucky and people have bought them without even viewing before hand.good feedback and reviews have helped build confidence in what I'm selling

They are a cracking car, in the MOT trade we rarely see major faults on them.

Have you tried Facebook Market place? Never tried myself but someone with dogs who does long mileages would want something like that

I think it’s pretty simple to sell a car and I do quite regularly from vehicles I buy to sell.

A lot is checking your local (within 60 miles) price on autotrader, good pics, clear and basic description and you can add videos these days too.

I’ve just put it on Facebook market place after a friend recommended me to.

My Kia has been nearly faultless.

Only problem I had was with the daytime running lights in the headlights.

But Kia replaced them under the warranty.

I was really surprised how Kia were really friendly to deal with.

That’s why I bought one for work. I’ve done nearly 20,000miles this year.

Always worked like clockwork.

I’ve even followed the service book.

Renewed the old coolant as it needs replacing after 5 years.

Kept up with replacing the brake fluid every two years.

I’ve always been stringent in my car maintenance.

Indeed. Back in Feb I was selling my 04 Astra H. 134k on the clock. Advertised on FB and a couple other places. Was a cheap car at £500. The amount of folk that came,kicked tyres then comlained about the mileage was unreal. It's a 14yo car ffs.

I’m quite surprised people moan about it especially when it clearly says in the ad.

But my last car bmw 325Ci e46.

Had done 120,000 miles but it had everything maintained and everything accounted for in receipts.

And it showed when test driving it, it felt like a new car rather than a 15 year old high miler.

It’s more down how it’s been looked after than just pure mileage.

For starters, most buyers want a bargain

Secondly, some sellers want to capitalise on what they have on offer

If you want shut of a car quickly, you need to get your head round the idea of accepting less than you think it's worth

You are also up against people who sell a lifestyle rather than a car

Finance options are more plentiful and much easier to arrange than they have ever been

The way people buy or own a car has changed

Why spend several grand or sort out a bank loan to buy a car outright when you can have a new one every couple of years for less than the cost of a bank loan ?

The problem is for run of the mill cars people would rather just go get finance and pay low monthly payments.

The markets booming for classics and specialist cars, i collect/buy & sell classics and as soon as i advertise them the phones off the hook.

i took a 2016 citroen c1 in 6 month back and i had it for sale for 3 months, in the end sold it we buy any car.... why would someone give me £5k for a 18 month old 20,000 mile motor when they can go and get one on finance for £99 a month brand new

People seem to be becoming detached from hands on work, ie they expect an mot and full service done in an hour or 2 some cars yes but some take ages- especially Germans

make sure the price is right, some people expect too much for stuff, any buyer will be looking at price low to high usually, if yours is to high then you will end up with it for ever. see what others have there price, keep checking prices go up and down all the time.

make sure good pics and description. list on several sites.

you might also want to see what places will buy it for, some offer good prices, webuy any car is going to be below average, so check about

Issue is it's diesel and government has scared people off diesel, though if you do big miles a year it makes a lot of sense.

True and they have caused abit of confusion.

Because electric cars can’t do lots of miles unless you buy the brand new models or you have a lot to afford a Tesla that can do the miles.

Depending what hybrid you by you could end up saving loads or spending loads on fuel.

My next door neighbour has a phev outlander and around London it’s on the electric all the time so basically uses no fuel but on the motorway he only averages 33mpg because the petrol engine is on constantly to keep charge in the batteries.

So diesels have their place for now.

The only downside to buying new is the new road tax that’s come in has confused people aswell.

But it doesn’t effect my 5 year old car as that’s on the old road tax tariff.

If I don't sell a motor within a couple of weeks of advertising it then I know there's something awry

I try to stick to fast moving stock, popular motors such as sports cars, 4wd & people carriers

The problem is that the market's saturated with cheap hatchbacks, I can get a traded in focus diesel for £300 for example & I'd normally expect a £1200 return on it if it's straight with a full ticket but folks give them away so it has a knock on effect

I specialise in engine/cambelt failures but my mechanic's a genius & has them fixed up usually the next day from when its dragged in

German stuff is always popular but has to be cheap unless it's really special

Puntos always sell well as do little pugs & Citroens (The electrical problems that used to dog them are largely a thing of the past) Renaults less so

Imo the problem is that many people these days have brand new cars on pcps so aren't looking for 5/6/7 year old cars anymore which drives their value down

I know it's a generalisation & there are always exceptions to the rule but kias/hyundais/nissans/Vauxhalls really aren't that popular unless they're brand new unless they're dirt cheap so it might end up being a landmark unless you're willing to take an hit on the price

Saying that, I'll travel all over the UK for the right car. There were certain happy hunting grounds where I used to be able to buy a family hatch at cheap money, drive it home, give it a service & valet then make £750-£1k a pop on them but even those seem to have dried up

Take Saabs (of which I'm a massive fan) for example. They used to be had for as little as £200-£300 but now are climbing as people find how good they are (generally)

Also to put things into perspective I've had in the last 6 months a BMW X5 with unrecorded damage I picked up for £1500, spent £1500 on bodywork then sold it on for £4250. Same with Audis with ECU problems, buy cheap, fix it up, sell for a good wedge, bargains a plenty out there

Until the beginning of last month I was smoking about in a 14 year old Mulliner edition conti GT which had minor scrapes to the front bumper. Again not recorded, got it repaired to as new condition. I really REALLY liked that car but it stood me in at just less than £20k (Yes, 20k for a Bentley continental GT!) When new it cost £120k. Sold it for £25k & the guy who bought it was turning cartwheels thinking he'd snatched my hand off. I probably could've got £27k for it but I'm not greedy, SPQR

Tomorrow I'm collecting a 20 year old Volvo v70 estate, 1 owner, fsh, immaculate (so I'm told - I bought it blind but my source is reliable & I've no reason to doubt him), the owner practically gave it to me as he's given up driving but I'll run that for a while as its huuuuuuuge inside then sell it on with ticket & a fresh service for £995

Horses for courses.

A lot of people would rather run a 10 year old Merc than a 3 year old Korean or Japanese car. Not because of reliability issues but because they look good in them. Ateotd if someone asked you in the pub or gym what you were driving these days it's a matter of one upmanship to say "I've just picked up an Audi/BMW/Mercedes/Range Rover" rather than a Kia/Hyundai/Dacia or such, no matter how much warranty they have or how reliable they are because, well, because they just ain't sexy

So you've either got to have patience - I've not traded on fleabay for 4 or 5 years now as everyone's a bloody 'dealer' or reduce it for a quick sale

Unfortunately I can’t just knock a lot off down too what I suppose you would call the trade in price.

Just because of my financial position with work having a quiet period. It’s made me force selling it quickly because I haven’t had an income for the last two months.

That’s the downside being self employed doing contract work in a niche industry.

Because I’ve got lots of people contacting me about it but it’s just the shear amount of basically time wasters and the others that basically want 70 percent off the asking price.

I Did have two people give me an offer on the phone then cheeky came in person with a lot less than they had offered. They were politely asked to leave.

Oh well. I’m staying patient and I’m not going to rush.

I lost £2-3k selling that way, but had seen a much better bargain and saved £5k ish on the replacement.

I have a 1968 ford Anglia estate for sale as a project / rebuild with loads of parts including brand new old stock wings etc so far stupid offers that wouldn't even pay for the wings , just a waiting game as long as you have storage for it.

Christmas is the worst time of year to sell a car privately and in general so be prepared to wait weeks/months and be prepared to deal with time wasters and people trying to get the car for next to nothing

You could go to we buy any car but they will deduct money for every mark , scratch etc etc and you will get trade price if you are lucky ( they usually buy lower for more profit ) .

Selling privately takes more time , is a pain in the arse but you get more money and you can do old fashioned haggling (something you either enjoy or don’t ) .

It’s also a Kia which people don’t particularly go for in a big way .

Well Kia has had an old Audi designer at the helm since 2011.

He designed my 2013 Kia and you can tell a German designed it.

People normally go for German or even jaguar these days but that’s because they go for the premium brands.

When my daytime running light failed the mot.

I rang my local Kia dealer because of the warranty and they even paid me for the failed mot which I was surprised about.

I’m more of a performance car fan and my previous car before the Kia was a bmw e46 coupe with a 2.5 6 cylinder engine.

My new car is a 2008 Ford Focus ST with a 2.5 turbo 5 cylinder engine.

I only bought the Kia for work. but it’s served me really well.

Always run like clockwork which is important as my work mileage over the last year was nearly 20 thousand miles.

It irons out the road and it’s comfortable.

I’ve decided to change my job which is why I’m selling it.

Because I’m only going to do few miles i decided to go back to a performance car.

The last 3 I’ve sold i was realistic with the price and then had to be patient but they went eventually-

I could make money by selling cars but it’s labour intensive
