plenty of independent fitters .just had a Mondeo done.150 .very hard to remove a boxed screen from a scrap car by the way, they nearly always break, but they make you pay before trying

I’d go for a local independent rather than a nation company such as auto glass. I take it you don’t have the cover on your insurance policy?

It doesn’t go down as a claim like a crash does, it won’t affect future premiums if that’s what’s worrying you. Windscreen cover is a separate policy all on its own but is tagged on to your normal policy, that’s why it has its own excess.

All the info online, piston heads etc suggests that future premiums are not affected by windscreen claims. I’ve claimed a few times over the years and it’s never had an impact on premiums.

So I guess it’s a Ford heated screen, I’d also guess the screen alone will be better than £300

What..they are bonded in ..windscreens are now part of a cars structure and add strength to it..I'm a mechanic of over 30 years and would not fit my own bonded windscreen ..watch shows like wheeler dealers, they always get someone in to fit a bonded screen..

Can you describe what it’s doing or not doing because you may not need a new screen. Some of the Fords suffer with a common fault which can be easily repaired.

Probably just a bad connection on it then. I’d get it looked at before replacing it. There are step by step guides online if you are fairly handy with a spanner.

What model have you got Clem?

Reply privatelyReply in forumReply +quote

That’s correct, the windscreen is an integral part of the vehicles structure , the heating element aspect of it is not covered by a insurance policy, however if your windscreen was cracked by say a large stone or a brick that flew out from between a lorry wheel it would be most unfortunate however it would then be covered.

Most windscreen glass excess is around £75 .

If the said lorry had a hammer ?? stuck between its wheels and this then also became detached and struck your windscreen it would be most unfortunate.

"What model have you got Clem?

2002 focus "

There’s a video on YouTube that shows an 06 focus and the design fault. Not sure if it’s the same in earlier models but it’s basically the wiper arm constantly hitting the foil tab that powers the heating element on the drivers side meaning over time it breaks. The result is that only the passenger side will work. Worth a look because it’s and easy fix if that’s the problem.

I’d at least get all the connections tested mate, if it’s a wiring or connection fault you could have a new screen fitted and have the exact same issue.

No it doesn’t. Like I said further up, windscreen cover is a separate policy all by itself which is why it has its own excess to pay. Therefore it does not affect your no claims discount or future premiums. At worst, if you were a regular claimer for glass they would increase the excess for glass claims.

Between a cock and a soft place

"Anyone had one replaced NOT through their insurance? Is there a company that gives reasonable prices?

I never know if your threads are serious or not Clem, but they always make me smile.

You're an interesting guy.....

Thanks for the complement.

My pleasure. You have nice eyes and your profile made me smile.

Apart from your windscreen challenge how are you getting on with f*cking you way through the site?

(I don't swear. Well, I do but only in the "moment")

It's Very very very quiet in Wiltshire..

I'm wondering what to do to make it a little more boisterous......

You should mail me with some ideas!

Oh shhhhh.

If you can pick the the same colour as an outfit in my picture gallery I'll set it as my profile picture for you.

I hope you're good at guessing.

Well, the safe money says "blue"! But I'm tempted by pink. naturally. "

Ha ha. That was a bit too easy wasn't it.

Pink like the fabric or pink like the skin......
