It's popular to deride Maggie. Most people do it without even knowing anything about her political life and gains for this country.

Most people ridicule her because their 'dad' did.

People who do often sound like innocent children , 'The mean lady did things I didn't like.' ......

The Community Charge gave Heseltine the inch he needed to lever Maggie out. Before that the people of this country re elected Maggie. Her own treacherous party thought they were going to lose the next election and turned on her in favour of Heseltine.

Maggie was good for this country.

Granny Crumpet is neither Conservative nor Blindly Bigotted.

Yes thanks to Maggie she took Britain from what it waqs in the 70s to the great caring law abiding society we have today.

The fact was she destroyed the manufacturing base that all countries need throwing millions on to the dole 9generation after generation).

She sold Scott/Lithgow in Greenock / Port Glasgow to her buddies in Trafalgar House (of which her son was involved)miles of prime waterfront land for £12 million and immidiately gave them £18 million in grants.

At the time Howard Doris wanted to buy it and use it for north sea structures but they were brushed aside and the deal fasttracked.

The taxpayer then payed the woekers wages for yrs till T H shut shop and sold the land for development.

A lot of Tories benefited from that one deal and there were many more like it the bastards should all have been shot.

Who honestly believes that any MP doesn't secretly line his/her own nest or that of their friends. You gotta be a different kind of naive to believe nepotism doesn't occur at every place where it's possible for it to happen. That's why the word even exists.

Correction, with the exception of Blunder Brown - he was too stupid to know how to help his friends and hurt his enemies so he just fucked everyone over in a catch-all type of scenario.

That's incorrect as I remember the state sell-offs quite clearly... 'Tell Sid?' remember that one?

The BT sell off, I did well out of that one too and I was no high-roller in those days, just your normal average Joe who saw a way to invest as little money and let it grow.

The state-run utilities were a joke, with workers skiving off doing 2 hours work for 8 hours pay and spending all day playing cards in a quiet corner of the yard. Making businesses accountable, and thus profitable, was one of Thatcher's greatest legacies and if she was so wrong to sell off the utilities how come NO govt since Mrs T has re-nationalised ANY of them?

using one example where initially the carrot to the public of being share holders (in order to sweeten the impact of what was coming imho)..

ignores the rest of the sell off's and PPP's, which have been and will be a massive drain on the 'public purse' for decades..

Treasury select committee this Aug, chaired by a tory basically said they are a long term issue and we should take the pain now and get rid..

As for why they have not been taken back into public ownership, due to the way they are set up to 'buy back' £1 billion will cost £1.7 billion..

dont know how you can talk for all state utilities unless you worked in them all and saw or took part in the the 'skiving'?

this is not a Red or Blue issue, not even a Yellow n Blue one which gives you Green i think...

its an issue for all of us, for our kids and there's...

I work in government and can tell you I dont have an easy working day all jobs are timed and the times are in no way generous and the wages are less than in the private sector (which I worked in for 30 yrs)

Now work where I do due to the fact I dont have to travel too far where before i was spending most of my life away from home.

And as for the "GOLD PLATED PENSIONS" that is only true of the fatcats that make up the rules including the MPs who keep going on about them.

But as usual the right wing press keep repeating it and all the masses who read them and cant think for themselves believe every word is gospel.

And wishy those companies are now only profitable because governments have no desire to restrain the prices they charge and we all pay more than we should to satisfy the greed of the shareholders.

"And wishy those companies are now only profitable because governments have no desire to restrain the prices they charge and we all pay more than we should to satisfy the greed of the shareholders.

"

We live in a very different world now, where British companies operate internationally (I'm talking about those companies that used to be state-owned, not the private companies who have always operated on several continents). They pay taxes in the different countries in which they operate, and yes, they are accountable to shareholders, but there is nothing worse than a CEO having to explain to thousands of angry holders of share certificates why their company has performed badly on any given year, whereas before nobody was accountable for a state-run, state-funded swallower of public funds that constantly under-achieved.

Privatisation made a lot of people rich, sure, but it also made the companies involved a lot more efficient. Would we have broadband now if BT had remained government owned and the cable industry strangled at birth? No, we wouldn't, because BT wouldn't have had any competition and would have continued to draw taxpayer pounds in return for offering the basic service they'd always provided.

Yes, we live in a different world, but the one we used to live in was adequate for the times in which it operated - it wouldn't survive a week now.

"It's popular to deride Maggie.

The people of this country never did elect Maggie Thatcher. Her party only ever got a minority share of the vote - the majority didn't want her, or her party.

Your opinion that she was good for this country is beneath derision.

"What on earth must it have been like to have maggie as a mum . Maybe her husband played both rolls he must be a saint he has always come across nice.

Her kids loved her. Her daughter Carol was in Im a celebrity ..great girl. No beast of a woman rears a lovely girl like that. "

What kind of woman sends her children to boarding school so she can pursue her career, funded by her wealthy husband?

And what kind of woman rears a son who is an employer of mercenaries and a criminal?

She hardly had a lot of competition from Labour did she in 79,83 and 87?; Callaghan, Foot and Kinnock. History was very fortunate to Thatcher; if Oil hadn't had been found in the 70's in the North sea, then Thatcher wouldnt have had the vast tax revenues from it to be able to cut taxes in the 80's.

Not that she did a lot with the revenue; let schools and hospitials become rundown, which meant Blair had to throw money at when he came in to compensate for the money thatcher didnt spend on them while she was in power.

So. Are you saying that labour voters never voted or voted Conservative because of their own leaders thereby permitting a Conservative Govt to take office ?

No; ask political commentator and they will tell you elections are won on the floating voter. Labour or conservative voters dont really decide elections; hence why such little effort is made to campaign in safe tory or Labour seats from other parties.

And Labour was imploding from within during the 80's, so made Thatcher's job of getting in again and again much easier. If Labour would have had a half decent leader, then i doubt Thatcher would have had such and easy ride. And if the Falklands hadnt of happened, then i doubt she would have won the 1983 election, such was her unpopularity at the time.

I see that Prince Philip has had radical new treatment for a 90 year old blocked artery, involving inserting a device to expand it.

His Royal Highness needs to be congratulated for agreeing to be experimented upon, rather than simply opting for the standard NHS treatment of starving to death whilst lying in one's own shit.

No, let's study him. I have to admit every time he appears I'm memorised. I'm truly fascinated by his popularity. Artists with talent, Mariah Carey, Boys II Men et al are vying to sing with him...why?!!

Fascinating.

Granny Crumpet is neither Conservative nor Blindly Bigotted.

A lot of people confuse being pig headed and arrogant as being strong, Maggie was not strong she always took the easy way out.

Despite the strikes etc, the previous Labour government had invested wisely and encouraged industrialists to do the same, in new technologies that given the right leader could have transformed this country, instead we got a stupid housewife who gave tax breaks to the worthless blue rinse mob.

Do you know what the what the biggest earner from Japan was. Believe it or not royalty checks for technology that should have been British built.

She wasn't a housewife.

Housewives aren't stupid.

"

She often quoted that running a country was like a housewife running a home, its nothing like that.

as offensive as 13,500 patients falling victim to some form of nutritional deficiency in 2009?

or as offensive as the contents of this years patients association report this year?

Happy Holidays to you too

Ironic isn't it, I work with a South African girl (white) and they dread the day he dies.

They really believe that he is the only reason they're still alive.
