I’ve bought mince pies today; it’s only October but what the hell. Now personally I like them naked but it has come to my attention some folk put custard on them . What do you put on yours or do you eat them naked?

Custard on mince pies?

I eat them plain, by the box. I like the ones that have the nice flakey soft pastry the best.

I've hear of putting cream in them but never custard. Usually eat them on their own here, might try ice cream though now i've thought about it.

It's too bloody early!

Especially when the scoff by date is November something.

Anyway, they're the best! I once had three of them in a gastro pub near mine, it was snowing and they had come straight from the oven, served with clotted cream, not bad for £1.50, I thought.

Tesco and other shops sell them all year round. You only really notice them now because they will display them better and have the more luxury brands in.

Iceland, but Aldi is closer..

Mince pies... damn, I thought this was a thread aimed at cockneys..

As for the sweet meat filled pastry variety, I take mine as they come, straight outta the box, just as nature (or Mr Kipling) intended..

Although a dollop of extra thick brandy cream on a hot mince pie certainly does something for me..

Ooh, I can feel my arteries clogging at the thought of it..

Look, I don't mean to brag right but I make my own. They are the only ones I like and I've managed to turn people who swore they didn't like them into lovers!! Last year I made about 250 for friends, family and school events

I like a flaky pastry mince pie warmed, with a blob of clotted cream.

But my absolutes favourite is my Mom’s mince pies, with shortcrust pastry and home made mincemeat. They just can’t be beaten!

warm with ice cream, custard or just on their own- its the only decent thing about xmas and they should be available all year (although its a good thing for my waistline they aren't- could easily eat a 12 box most weeks without any effort

For me, warm with double cream or sometimes proper vanilla ice-cream and not forgetting an extra mince pie just for good measure.
