FAB CRAP RUNNERS CLUB - WEEK FORTY-TWO

WEEK FORTY-TWO!!!

.

MOTTO: We run #LikeAToddlerChasingAPug

.

.

.

Hey lovely Fab Crap Runners!

It's Week Forty-two!!!

.

.

.

How is everyone doing?

.

.

.

EXPLANATION AND ETHOS:

EVERYONE is welcome in the Fab Crap Runners' Club (the crapper the better).

From 1st January, a bunch of Fabbers began improving their fitness through running. None of them were natural athletes but they did it anyway.

.

.

.

FOR COMPLETE BEGINNERS:

"Couch to 5k" (C25K) is a nine-week running programme for absolute beginners, available on various free phone apps (Mrs T used Get Running). But you can join this thread to get fit by any means including walking and cycling - all are welcome. If you're expecting to be utterly crap at it (I mean reeeeeeeeeally bad), you're in the right place. Join the thread, tell us what your aim is and we'll cheer you on each week, just for trying.

.

.

.

FOR MORE EXPERIENCED RUNNERS:

Tell us what you’re up to with your running, your training and your races. Let’s us know your highs and lows. Please cheer on the newbies and give advice if they ask.

.

.

.

FCRC SOCIAL PARKRUN

I am doing a doodle poll to find out where everyone can get to with ease before organising the next social.

https://doodle.com/poll/77nghmke7uwunrwy

Again, it's completely anonymous and you can vote for as many options as you would like.

Hopefully the regions are self-explanatory (Sorry if you think your county should be in a different region!)

.

.

AND FINALLY:

Who is working towards a specific goal? Tell us your progress.

Good morning everyone.

How did everyone do last week?

After a storming run on Thursday, I decided that the weather was too stormy to go out over the weekend.

Back on it again this week.

"Done my first half (and last ) over a month ago. Was a min over my wanted time but that was due to an injury picked up but I am more than delighted with completing it.

Love running, try to run 3 times a week on my lunch in work. Range from 3miles up to 10 when training for the half. "

Well done on completing your first half

After my first one, I said never again. I then said I would if I managed to run parkrun under 30 minutes (I was running about 32 at the time). First week of trying, I managed 29:30 ended up doing three in three months (including the first one).

Interesting...most people run, then join a club to run with coaching & social aspects, but if the club folds they still run...or maybe not...hmmm.

I've been running for 10 years now, and never once run with a club. Running is "me time", I like the solitude and the freedom to do the distance and pace i want to. Thats just me though, i can see how club running can be motivating and get you out there when you otherwise might just stay on the sofa!

I only run for the social aspect. Unless I lose my senses, I won't be doing any races over 10k, mainly because I'm lazy and can't be bothered to do the training.

No, always on my lonesome, other than races.

I do love the social side of racing though, meeting up with friends and sharing a post race beer or 3

I run with a club on occasions, but prefer to train alone, racing I enjoy seeing familiar faces..usually only at the start..they have all finished by the time I turn up..training for 10k to half marathon isn't so bad..

Yes, training for a half isn't bad (I have run then in the past). But you can't just turn up on the day and run one. A 10k I could.

Given the choice I'd go early morning, but when your work alarm is 05:15, then need to be pragmatic and go after work!

I have been known to get up at 4am for LSR weekend runs, so it doesn't impinge too much on family time

Glad you've finally gone to the doctors Harry.

Good luck and I'll check in on you next week.

Wish I could get better at running but I struggle literally after about 1km sometimes, it's not my breathing I get tight calf muscles...I'm also relatively fit as I've played football all my life and still twice a week sometimes three times a week...only thing I can think off is that my body/legs are too used to football i.e interval type of exercise. .when I play football I'm non stop but if it's continously I get pains in my lower legs...any tips?

I do triathlons so the three different discipline, you need to introduce your running by a walk run method, try and do a little cycling I'm between it helps your legs adjust to different muscle groups, make sure you stretch before and after it will help with reducing muscle aches good luck

I tried that a few years ago and it did work to an extent...Ill probably give that another go...I'm think of going to see a gait specialist cos I've been told running style and footwear make a big difference

There is a running shop in bridge of Allan that's brilliant an hour later and I had the best running shows I ever had worth going to the experts

Just waiting for the experts to comment.......

But in the meantime, I found my left knee was aching when I used to hit the 6k mark, couldn't go any further due to the pain/worry of injury.

I went to a local specialist running shop, did a gait analysis, paid for a pair of Asics (other brands are available) no more pain and have improved month after month

So definately visit a running shop

That sounds great!!

My pain wasn't necessarily in my calfs it was like between my calf's and my achillies they just tightened up , even my big toes went tight it was weird lol..I felt embarrassed stopping so soon haha

Be really careful about stretching beforehand when your muscles are cold and tight, can cause more problems than it solves

I find doing five mins on the cycle trainer loosens and warms me up before a run really works lots if stretching after as well

Yes, any kind of dynamic stretching is good. I generally walk for 5 m8ns at the start of a run, or else start at a real slow pace to ease into it

There is also good 15 min warm ups in the YouTube that I do sometimes which is good for something different
