My husband starts his new job today. He was in his last job since his 16th birthday, so way over nine and a half years. He left on Wednesday, and had yesterday off.

I’m so nervous for him starting. And he isn’t even bothered!

Do you get nervous when you start a new job? What do you do to calm your nerves?

Ahhhhhh but he was actually their second choice

He applied ages ago and was so close but someone else got it. But they’ve resigned due to medical grounds. But he’s excited nonetheless

I leave my current job two weeks today and start on the 1 November.

I’m shitting myself if I’m honest.

Will I get there in time in my first day to what do I wear etc etc

Will they like me.

Can I do the job.

But I’m using it as an excuse to get my hair done and some new clothes.

So, they kept him in mind and chose him rather than readvertise. He should take confidence from that.

Hubby had over a 16 year managerial career at a utilities company, and left over a couple of years aged 38 to start a career in tattooing, as an apprentice, to which now he is a full artist, and living his dream, I can understand what you feel right now, I was scared for him due to the stability his old job gave him and us, but well, sometimes you got to take that leap and chase what you want. And it can pay off xx

First few days everything might sound like gobbledygook, but usually it all starts making sense eventually and everything clicks into place.

I used to run induction training for new staff, and some would come in so nervous, it was great when two weeks down the line they'd got the hang of it and and you could see how their confidence had increased.

The ones who did best were the ones who asked questions and weren't scared to say when they didn't understand something.

Never get nervous. I've recently moved schools and i made some real friends at the last school. The new one has people that..lets say i wouldn't talk to outside of work. I thought i would be nervous but nah. Takes too much energy and i need that for forum battles

Ive just resigned this mornibg after 10 years in current firm. Yes its daunting but exciting as well - new job, new challenge and a chance to really make an impact - plus a massive (£28k!!) pay increase to boot.

No I don't get nervous as I'm a very hands on person.

I get stuck straight in at the deep end and absorb as much information as possible.

Meeting new people your working with is the same, I have to trust their judgement ,listen closely and understanding what I'm being told etc.

Communication is key, all going in the same direction. Understanding what part people play in achieving the result.

I provide lots of feedback riding motorbikes from engine, brakes , suspension, tyres etc so I need to be on good terms with everyone and when something isn't right i explain it in a calm manner with a positive approach for what I'm looking for.

I begin each test session by shaking hands with every member of the team from top to bottom.

And end the same way.

Bond like glue.builds friendships and trust.
