FAB CRAP RUNNERS CLUB - WEEK FORTY-ONE

WEEK FORTY-ONE!!!

.

MOTTO: We run #LikeAToddlerChasingAPug

.

.

.

Hey lovely Fab Crap Runners!

It's Week Forty-one!!!

.

.

.

How is everyone doing?

.

.

.

EXPLANATION AND ETHOS:

EVERYONE is welcome in the Fab Crap Runners' Club (the crapper the better).

From 1st January, a bunch of Fabbers began improving their fitness through running. None of them were natural athletes but they did it anyway.

.

.

.

FOR COMPLETE BEGINNERS:

"Couch to 5k" (C25K) is a nine-week running programme for absolute beginners, available on various free phone apps (Mrs T used Get Running). But you can join this thread to get fit by any means including walking and cycling - all are welcome. If you're expecting to be utterly crap at it (I mean reeeeeeeeeally bad), you're in the right place. Join the thread, tell us what your aim is and we'll cheer you on each week, just for trying.

.

.

.

FOR MORE EXPERIENCED RUNNERS:

Tell us what you’re up to with your running, your training and your races. Let’s us know your highs and lows. Please cheer on the newbies and give advice if they ask.

.

.

.

FCRC SOCIAL PARKRUN

I am doing a doodle poll to find out where everyone can get to with ease before organising the next social.

https://doodle.com/poll/77nghmke7uwunrwy

Again, it's completely anonymous and you can vote for as many options as you would like.

Hopefully the regions are self-explanatory (Sorry if you think your county should be in a different region!)

.

.

AND FINALLY:

Who is working towards a specific goal? Tell us your progress.

"I managed to do 1mile in the gym at a pace of 4.5mph increased to 5mph.

Next time I went which was 2days later I started but new I didnt have the will power over my legs.

Opted for the bike instead and done 9k in 30mins.

Yesterday I got 13k inside 40 mins.

My walking pace is 4mph.

We all have days when the legs don't want to work!

Keep at it and you'll get there. Then suddenly you'll think, why did I ever think this was difficult?

I've had a whole year like that!!"

I've had two years, with very few signs of positivity

"I have finally realised on a trip to Decathlon tonight there is such a thing as a light that fits to your body rather than just on your head. As a glasses wearer am wondering if this is the way forwards

Lots of people at my running club wear them. They are good at making you be seen (some even have a red light on the back).

I'm not sure how they are for seeing where you are going, so you could still trip over unexpected tree roots and potholes.

Have ordered one for £6.30 from wish. I tend to stick to the same routes and none are that rough. Fingers crossed I feel upto running by the time it arrives!

Are you still not feeling well Harry?

Congestion appears to be finally fading after a relatively relaxing weekend, but then again I thought this last Saturday and by the Sunday "

How are you feeling today?

Thank you so much, running is good at the mo, lots of autumn races going on, wonderful time of year to run out in our beautiful countryside as the leaves turn.

Going out on a cheeky 10k around the locality to keep the juices flowing before Saturdays race.

Speed is all relative. Don't forget endurance is good too though!

If you slowed your pace just slightly, you could definitely break that 5k barrier

Just started an 80/20 running programme where you run slower to keep in a low heart rate zone, with the ultimate goal being that you can run faster.

Has anyone else tried this?

I've not intentionally done this, but that is generally how I run (looking at the very brief article I've read on it).

One of the reason I like doing social runs with people is that I chat. And to chat you need enough oxygen to chat

The Thursday night runs we do with our club are social for a reason.

Not strictly running but sat up to watch the Kona ironman until gone 2 this morning. Lucy Charles who finished second lady occasionally dies our park run. At the pace she ran her final 5km yesterday she'd have still beaten me convincingly! And don't get me started on the winning man running a 2.45 marathon! Unbelievable!

I’ve started running in the mornings before work. I’m managing about 2km at the moment but can already see improvements in both distance and pace. I have been supplementing this cardio with resistance/weight training at the gym and a fairly healthy diet (but sometimes you’ve just got to let yourself eat some brownie )

I’m aiming on doing a 5k somewhere next year, and then a wolf run in the new year too. I know I’ve got a way to go but it’s one foot in front of the other.

Somewhere down south

"I’ve started running in the mornings before work.

Excellent! Welcome to the FCRC, we are a nice bunch well some of us

"Just started an 80/20 running programme where you run slower to keep in a low heart rate zone, with the ultimate goal being that you can run faster.

Has anyone else tried this?"

sort of when I focused on distance last year, great base, but still need to do hill & speed work at some point. Gives you great resilience though.

Hilly race completed, 30seconds slower than last year in strong winds. Happy with that.

No using the "H" word on this thread please. That's a horrible swear word!

Done my first half (and last ) over a month ago. Was a min over my wanted time but that was due to an injury picked up but I am more than delighted with completing it.

Love running, try to run 3 times a week on my lunch in work. Range from 3miles up to 10 when training for the half.

My local Parkrun is one of the hilliest in U.K. and where I live is hilly, so I can't avoid them. I noticed the programme introduces upper heart rate zones later on, so the speed training will come.

I'm finding it strange running slower, but I can run further and my recovery is near instant

That is the hardest thing to get into your head...how can this slow be good, but like you even though my distances were longer recovery was shorter, throwing in tempo & speed after a few months of slow really hurt & seemed to take more out of me for longer. Now I mix it up & the recovery from each is similar.
