Yes indeed forget the shit mma contrived soap opera

2 people have died from putting their all into their peaceful passion , a sport about effort not ego

and you're right how tragic it will be for the families how will they be feeling tonight

So yes let's forget caged morons imitating the wwf wrestling soap and spare our thoughts for the families of others who have lost their lives today x

'Charity' and vis-a-vis 'peer pressure' has people participating in these things when their health quite simply doesn't support it

Lack of training, lack of understanding and a fear of failure combine to push them beyond their limits

Seems to happen quite regularly these days. I guess for some it's their first time at long distances. Plus pushing too hard because you're carried by the event. Eventually showing up and underlying health conditions. I'd be interested to know why it seems to affect athletes after the exercise has stopped.

I don't think that's true. We have no idea of today was just their day. We also don't know their fitness levels either. Of the last few deaths in marathons etc those who died were very fit individuals who had been training for years.

I don't think it's helpful to lay blame at charities and friends for this.

Not bugged me, I just think that jumping to conclusions isn't helpful or respectful.

Neither is arguing so I'll leave it there (got told off at the weekend for labouring points by an ex fabber lol)

Perhaps we should spare a thought for their family and friends and leave them to try and find their peace...

I did hear one of the recent deaths at the London marathon was down to a "pre work out" drink. There sure is a lot of potions to take these days. Always read the label.

I understand the Army/ Marines expect to loose a few in basic training due to undiagnosed heart conditions that would probably affect them in any walk of life.

I imagine it’s the same here.

The latest reports are that the two men who died were in their twenties and thirties, and had finished the race

Very sad, I've seen someone collapse and die in a half marathon that I was running in a few years back and it was a horrid and sobering experience

RIP to the 2 that never made it home in Cardiff today

"Thats terrible news.."

It absolutely is. But it's not uncommon. People do need to be aware of the risks of exercise. Rik Mayall, James hunt, its a long list I'm sure. If it was deaths caused by boxing or football, the media would be all over it.

I think it is uncommon. Thousands of people run half marathons, marathons and ultra marathons every week and a handful of people die every year while doing so.

Oh and the press are "all over it", the deaths are being widely reported
